  • Chinese actress Tang Wei was chosen from more than 10,000 women to play the lead female role alongside Tony Leung in Ang Lee's Lust, Caution.

  • Media Controversy

The Chinese Government reprimanded Tang in March 2008 over her performance in Lust, Caution. Though she is a spokesperson for Ponds skin care products, with a contract worth about one million dollars, China's television administration has banned the broadcast of any commercials featuring Tang. They have cited "lewd and pornographic content" as their reasons for the ban.

The government administration also requested that Tang and the film's producers and cast be excluded from attending awards ceremonies.
