Career
After completing college, Pierce moved to New York where she earned a living reading manuscripts for Silhouette Romances and doing freelance editing. In 1983, Atheneum Books released Alanna: The First Adventure, the first book in her quartet, The Song of the Lioness. Through the late 1990s and early 2000s she toured the United States, England and Canada, while continuing to write and publish several more books. Her 2006 release, Terrier, has been nominated for both the 2009 Garden State Teen Book AwardsNew Jersey Library Association: Garden State Book Awards and the Evergreen Young Adult Book AwardKing County Library System: The Evergreen Young Adult Book Award. In 1963 her father moved the family to California. Later, after her parents' divorce, her mother moved her and her sisters back to Pennsylvania where she had lived during her younger years.
She and husband Tim Liebe, whom she refers to as "much-loved spouse-creature," currently live in Manhattan. Though the couple has remained childless, they enjoy spending time with nieces, nephews and other family members, as well as their cats and parakeets.TamoraPierce.com:Tamora Pierce Biography
