Bruce's political career began in the 1990s, when she worked to help elect Senate Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. She was a supporter of Bill Clinton. Bruce first clashed with NOW in 1995 over the O.J. Simpson murder case, scoffing openly at the notion that Simpson was a victim of racist persecution.
