Eco-tourists appreciate Tamarindo because of its proximity to Playa Grande, where leatherneck turtles lay their eggs. For the evening, you can sample the local cuisine and catch the flavor of Costa Rica night life by dancing to salsa, cumbia and reggaeton played by local musicians!

    • Crocodile Sight-seeing - There are several touring companies that take tourists out on the Tarcoles River to see the crocodiles and also do bird-watching in the tropical mangroves. You can choose tour options with meals. The guides hand-feed the crocodiles.

    • Butterfly Farms - In Monkey Park, located in Portegolpe, about 20 minutes west of Tamarindo, 12 species of butterfly species are featured. There is also a botanical garden and the location serves as an animal rescue center and also has many endangered species.     • Museums - In San Jose, there are at least two museums you should visit. Underneath the Plaza Cultura in downtown San Jose, there is The Museo de Oro Precolombino, which has many gold artifacts from pre-Colombian culture in Costa Rica, as well as other exhibitions. the Museo de Jade (Jade Museum) can also be found in the INS Building in San Jose, where you can find the largest collection of American jade in the world.     • Toros - There are different "Fiestas Civicas" all around the Guanacaste Province and in other parts of the country that feature horse parades, bull runs through the streets, ("Topes") and bull riding.
