Players in Tales of Vesperia can earn a special form of currency called grade, which accumulates over the course of the game and allows them to purchase a variety of enhancements, upgrades and game-altering effects that take effect during subsequent playthroughs. Combat performance is the main contributing factor in determining how much grade is doled out so the more skillful a player is, the more grade they will receive. Likewise, it is also possible to have a certain amount deducted if a fight goes badly.
