Tae Kwon Do (taekwondo) is a Korean form of martial arts. It had its beginnings dating back to beginning of martial arts in 50 bc. Korean martial arts at that time was known as Tae Kyon. Around 1955, the name TaeKwonDo was adopted due to its similarity to the earlier name. It is the national sport of South Korea, and a Summer Olympic event since 2000. The two main forms of Tae Kwon Do are the Kukkiwon's WTF (World Taekwondo Federation), based in Seoul, South Korea, and the ITF (International Taekwondo Federation), based out of Pyongyang, North Korea 1 goal of TKD is to achieve harmony with one's self and those around or nature. It is not a sport but a way of life. Tenets of TKD are: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit.
