  • Led by brash and (for the time) outlandishly dressed frontman Marc Bolan, 1970s glam rock band T. Rex released four acoustic albums as "Tyrannosaurus Rex" before shortening their name and going electric. "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" hit the top ten for the group in 1972 and was covered by the Eighties supergroup The Power Station who took it to the top ten again. Marc Bolan was killed in a car crash on September 16, 1977.
  • Bolan's Death

Marc Bolan never learned to drive and in fact had a lifelong fear of dying in an automobile accident. His girlfriend and the mother of his only son Rolan was driving them home in September 1977 after a long night out and collided with a tree, severely injuring herself and killing Bolan.
