    Hollywood legend Sydney Pollack died on Monday, May 26, 2008, at 73.

    Pollack was diagnosed with cancer about nine months before his death and died surrounded by his family at his home in the Los Angeles community of Pacific Palisades.

    Pollack was preceded in death by his son Steven Pollack, who died in a plane crash in 1993, and is survived by wife Claire Griswold, a brother, Bernie Pollack, two daughters, Rebecca and Rachel and six grandchildren.
