  • Origins

Swing dancing is so called because its development coincided with that of the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. As such, many, but not all of the dances were developed by African-Americans. The popularity of swing dancing spread quickly throughout the United States and many regions developed their own individual styles.
