The Sweet Sixteen bracket is determined after the first two rounds of the March Madness college basketball tournaments. The bracket features the top four teams in each of the regional brackets, two each from the west, south, midwest and east.
The NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments are held each year in the spring. The men's tournament includes 65 teams, with one team being eliminated first in the play-in game. The women's tournament contains 64 teams to start. Each tournament is played with a single-elimination format.

Sweet Sixteen Background and History
Like the term March Madness, Sweet Sixteen is a casual term that describes the final 16 teams remaining in the tournaments. The sixteen teams include four each from the regional brackets and are determined after the first two rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournaments. The Sweet Sixteen is followed by the Elite Eight, with eight teams, two from each of the regional areas, remaining. The Elite Eight winners continue on to the elusive Final Four, then the two winners from the round square off for the championship in the NCAA Championship Game.
