  • Swedish cuisine is based on a traditional foundation called husmanskost which means everyday or home-cooked food. Typical dishes are Swedish meatballs, blood pudding, salted game meats such as reindeer, salted or smoked herring and various other types of fish, pea soup, cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, and waffles.

    Smorgasbord is buffet-style meal that is popular in Swedish cuisine to celebrate holidays and special occasions. It consists of cold and hot dishes and a variety of other delicacies. It always features a fish like herring, salmon, or eel in various forms such as smoked, salted, or pickled. There can be cured meats, cheeses, pate, stewed cabbage or cabbage rolls, Swedish meatballs, and some form of potato such as Janssons frestelse, a potato dish made with onions and cream.

    Smorgasbord in the United States refers to any type of buffet or can also allude to a mixture of diverse things or variety of something in any given situation.
