On April 15, 2009, Roesgen reported live from a "tea party" protest in Chicago. Apparently upset by what she called the "Obama bashers," Roesgen seemed to lose her patience with the crowd, though some deemed her report "manufactured".http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/24/susan-roesgen-video-cnn-r_n_190635.html Immediately after the incident, Roesgen was suspended from her reporting duties at CNN and although she came back to report for three more months, ultimately her contract was not renewed.http://www.aim.org/on-target-blog/cnns-susan-roesgen-loses-her-job/
Roesgen's CNN Tea Party Report
On Tax Day 2009, April 15, protesters gathered across the country to demonstrate high taxes and excessive government spending in what were called "tea parties." Roesgen reported live from a protest in Chicago. Towards the end of her segment, Roesgen labeled the crowd as "anti-government," "anti-CNN" and said the event was "highly promoted by the right wing conservative network FOX."http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/16/AR2009041601364.html
The Fox News Channel aired coverage of the events with reporters stationed in different cities. Glenn Beck hosted from the Alamo in Texas, while another reporter was at the Capital building in Sacramento, California. Other stations, like MSNBC and CNN also provided coverage.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/16/AR2009041601364.html Roesgen, who reported live from a protest in Chicago, received criticism for her apparent sarcasm, noted by some commentators and bloggers who said she was "FOX-bashing."Hot Air: Unreal: CNN Reporter Openly Contemptuous of Tea Parties (April 15, 2009)http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/16/AR2009041601364.html
