Synopsis
Have you ever been to summer camp? What would you do if almost all of the adults left “for a few hours” and they had not returned a week later? What would you do if no one’s cell phone worked and your parents never showed up to take you home? What would you do if you realized that the area was surrounded by a mysterious brown fog that was dangerous? How would you survive the cold winter? What would you eat? Where would you live? This is what Mike, John, Desi and the other campers have to contend with in Surviving the Fog. Warning: Contains strong language and sexual situations -

5.0 out of 5 stars Review by: jammie on Mar. 05, 2009 at smashwords.com I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The characters are likeable and although there are a lot of them, they're easy to keep track of. The story is very entertaining to the end. There is some editing that needs to be done, but not so much that it affects the story. I highly recommend that you give this book a read. --Jammie
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read, April 22, 2009 By M. Green At Amazon.com "I really enjoyed this book. Grabbed me right from the start and really held my interest right through to the end. Great characters, great story...hope the author continues to write more."
5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising, April 15, 2009 By Philip Brady (Rochester, NH United States) at Amazon.com "When you see that something is free some skepticism might creep in to how enjoyable a read it might be. In fact, I put off reading it for about three weeks. I started reading it and wasn't able to put it down. It was a very good story. I hope this author continues to write."
5.0 out of 5 stars How would you survive the fog?, July 24, 2009 By Ruth K. at Amazon.com I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I finished it about a week ago, but I still think about it. The dialogue is well done, the setting is developed nicely, and the plot is not predictable. Some of the things the kids say and accomplish is amazing, but it was believable because they are in an unusual circumstance. I especially enjoyed how the children were able to keep their community and humanity intact in the absence of adult leaders. If you read this book, you will see how they are much more efficient and respectable than most of the adults they encounter. Highly recommended. -

Unfavorable Reviews
one star 2009.05.22 shedmonsterHave you seen that movie The Fog? Yes, so has the kid that wrote this. A bunch of kids who end every sentence with "dude" find themselves alone at some kind of camp with a dangerous fog surrounding them.
Aside from the fact that the plot is lifted directly from a well known movie this book is awful. I'm guessing the author is about 17 so I'm trying not to be too harsh but honestly, think about the stories you wrote when you were 17 - would you publish them? Even for free? The writing is just terrible with the focus jumping around in a distracting way.
If that wasn't enough there are 'sexual situations' which will make your toes curl so badly you'll have to be fitted for special shoes. The only people likely to wring any enjoyment from this one are young teens but the book is aimed at adults.

Excerpt From "Surviving the Fog"
"So what do you think of Petersburg, Major," asked Mike."I like this place, Mike," replied the Major. "I like what you are doing here."
"I’ve been thinking," said Mike.
"Uh oh," muttered the Lieutenant.
"I've been thinking about what our next step should be. I started thinking about it when I realized that you were probably coming here, Major Collins," said Mike.
"What made you think that I would come here?" asked the Major.
"Mainly it was the way that you handled that gang, Major," said Mike. "You rescued the kids immediately. That same night. You took my suggestion that you approach quietly on foot. You were more interested in rescuing the children than in capturing the gang. You took care of the kids. I bet that Erin really likes it there."
"I hired her as my orderly," admitted the Major. Mike laughed.
"Major," he asked. "Who does the Army report to?"
"Ordinarily the Army reports go up the ladder until they reach the Secretary of the Defense Department. Why?" asked the Major cautiously.
"Who do you report to," asked Mike. "A better question is, who will you report to?"
"I suppose that when I can contact a recognized civilian government then I will report to them," said the Major slowly.
Mike turned. He stood in front of the graveyard, one of the most ancient signs of human civilization. His demeanor changed from the kid he still was, to the young man he had been forced to become.
"Very well, Major Collins," he said in a raised firm voice. "Report."
