Surfboard

Surfboards are the primary equipment used to participate in the water sport Surfing. There are two general types of Surfboards: Longboards, and Shortboards.

Buying Guide

The first decision to be made when purchasing a Surfboard is deciding on the style of the board. There is the Longboard which is the classic model. Longboards are good for beginners because they are easy to paddle and stand up on. Longboards are anywhere from 7'5" to over 9'0" in length and are traditionally wider than short boards. The tip of a longboard is usually rounded. Shortboards are quicker, easier to maneuver and handle and lighter. But they are also harder to stand up on and learn with. Traditionally shortboards are 5' to 7' feet and have a sharp tip.

Parts of the Surfboard

  1. Nose: Front of the Board
  2. Fins: Located on the bottom of the board provide directional stability
  3. Deck: The Top of the Board
  4. Bottom: Side which rests on the Water
  5. Rail: Edges of the board
  6. Leash: Cord which attaches from the board to the surfer to keep the board in vicinity of the rider when released or separated from the rider
