Superstars is a reality television show where sports professionals are paired up with celebrities and will complete in various high endurance competitions. The show premiered on ABC June 23, 2009.EW.com: Superstars: Ready for Some Reheated '70s Cheese? (April 21, 2009)

Superstars first aired on ABC Sports in 1973. It was initially designed to have athletes from different sports compete against each other to see who the top athlete of the year was. It switched back and forth between networks and aired many spin-offs in the 1980s, then later producers tried a pay-per-view event where new athletes would compete against past champions, but the concept failed and never aired. 2009 was the first year celebrities competed with the athletes.
