• Documentary film Super Size Me details director Morgan Spurlock's thirty-day quest to eat three meals a day at McDonald's. Spurlock also explores the increasing problem of obesity in the United States, many citizens' dependence on fast food and the industry's increasing corporate influence over national nutrition.

  During the experiment, which took place in February of 2003, Spurlock consumed an average of 5,000 calories per day and ate every McDonald's menu item at least once. The effects were dramatic: Spurlock gained over 24 pounds and experienced liver damage, sexual dysfunction and mood swings. It took him over fourteen months to lose the weight.
