The game had no manual boosting system. Players could only increase their speed by running over coins spread throughout each track. Players lost speed when they were hit by an item, hit into a wall or hit by another character. Grand Prix: The game could be played with one or two players. There were three different speeds: 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. The 150cc mode was available only after a player won first place in all of the championship cups in 100cc. There were four championship cups, with five races. Time Trial: Players could play any three-lap race and try to pass it as fast as possible. Battle Mode: Two players battle out in an arena, trying to pop the three balloons of the opposition.
