Heavy Metal Mecha-Bowser
- Jump onto the train and ride it to the launch star
- Watch out for Mecha-Koopas as you explore; destroy them with a ground pound. The pink/purple honeycomb walls have gravity and can be run on, use it to reach the ground below.
- Run to the strip of gravity wall on the right and follow it around. Spin on the bolt of the rotating fan to stop it in place, then spin open the nearby gold bolt to open a new launch star.
- To reach the new star, return to the area with the two Gearheads and unscrew the gold bolt in the back (to do so, stand on top of it and spin). You should drop down to a small platform with a trampoline and a blue bolt. Spin the blue bolt into place to create a bridge leading to the launch star.
- Launch to the new area and grab the nearby ? Coin. As Spring Mario, bounce along the path, avoiding laser beams and enemy attacks.
- You must use Spring Mario's massive super jumping abilities to reach the top of the stack of blocks at the far end of the area (past the conveyors). Note that Mario can still ground pound as Spring Mario.
- Launch and land in a new area: a giant plate with a giant jar containing the launch star. Grab the Spring Mario power-up and super jump onto the giant jar, then break the lid with a ground pound.
- The new area takes place on a giant toy robot. Run across its treads and wall-jump up the robot's foot on your left. Climb up the gravity wall, screw in the blue bolt and take the pipe up top.
- Exiting the pipe, you will be on the robot's other foot. Screw the second blue bolt in and use the sling star.
- Unscrew all the gold bolts and when the plating falls off, jump to the lower-most chamber and use the green pipe.
- In the next section, jump onto the robot's hand. Follow the gravity wall up its arm to a gold bolt on its shoulder. Unscrew it and use the launch star quickly.
- In the next section, grab the spring mushroom and bounce to the top of the robot's head. Super jump onto the stack of gray blocks and ground pound. Collect the star.
-
Mario Meets Mario
- Hop onto the train and use the Launch Star.
- Next area: find 5 star chips along the machinery. The first chip is dead ahead on a laser droid.
- Head to the other side and climb the greenish structure. Use the trampoline on one of the faces to reach a star chip.
- One one of the other faces of this structure is a star chip in a crystal.
- Climb the giant black screw to the top. Collect the star chip and turn the blue screw with the spin attack to extend the giant black screw.
- Run to the other end of the giant black screw and grab the final star chip. The Launch Star should appear right next to you.
- Next area: Mario meets "Mario", which it turns out a series of lava platforms, yellow flipping platforms, and vanishing platforms. Your goal is to collect 5 silver stars.
- Long jump to the first silver star, on top of "Mario's" right button on his overalls. Beware the flipping platforms: they flip constantly after being touched, and are dangerous to leap on after use.
- Long jump to the silver star on "Mario's" other button. Long jump towards "Mario's" face.
- Long jump to the silver star in "Mario's" extended hand (use buffering to keep from overshooting). Long jump back onto "Mario's" face.
- Long jump across "Mario's" face to the next silver star and a 1-up. Long jump to the right of the 1-up to "Mario's" other hand.
- Long jump from the hand back to the startng point and collect the star.
-

The Flipswitch Chain
- Select the level "Mario meets Mario".
- Play through the level as normal until you reach the area with the 5 star chips. Climb the green structure and look for a Hungry Luma located near the giant black screw. Feed it 50 star bits and launch off.
- Next area: two catwalks, one blue and one glass, of Tox Boxes, ? squares, and sliding traps. Your goal is to turn all the ? squares from blue to yellow by touching them, similar to the Flipswitch Galaxy.
- Run forward and hit the first ? square. Watch out for the Tox Boxes; even though the ? square is technically safe, the edges of the box can still crush Mario.
- Run back along the path for another pair of Tox Boxes. Hit the ? square on the verticle face.
- Move along to another pair of Tox Boxes. Hit the ? square underneath the catwalk.
- Next, move along the catwalk until you see a Tox Box guarding three ? squares on the blue catwalk in the middle of the area. Long jump to the blue catwalk and hit the three ? squares. The Tox Box will not crush Mario if he's standing on the middle ? square.
- Run in any direction on the blue catwalk. Your goal is to find three groups of ? squares, guarded by sliding traps. They can't be missed; simply search the faces of the catwalk when you see sliding traps.
- Once you activate all the squares, the traps will stop and a star will appear on a brown block near the blue catwalk. Grab it.
-
Bouncing Down Cake Lane
- Ride the train to the Launch Star.
- Collect the Spring Mushroom, then super jump (hold A) into the "chimney" between the two cakes. Wall jump upwards from your super jump.
- At the top, jump onto the blue conveyors, but beware of walls on them that can push Mario off. Press forward and jump over the walls.
- At the end of the conveyors, grab the ? Coin for a huge load of star bits, then drop down to the plate of food below.
- Climb to the edge of the big black fork and super jump over the wall of wafers. It's much safer than trying to cross against the rotating fruit. Use the sling star on the other side of the wafer wall.
- Next area: Mario lands on a giant ice cream cone. Climb to the top of the scoop and leap onto the popstickle sticks (which function as poles).
- Cross the sticks over to a rotating platform made of lollipops. Jump over the ring waves from the droid until the lollies rotate close enough to the ice platform.
- Carefully cross the frozen steps. Don't be afraid to buffer your jump. Kill the octopi if they get too close.
- Hop onto the next lollipop platform. Like the last platform, hop over the ring waves until your platform rotates close enough to the next area.
- Climb the pole and get in the cannon. Fire Mario at the Launch Star, collecting the bits before launching off.
- Next area: a giant cake with spoons wedged into it. Climb up the spoon "staircase". If a Mecha-Koopa gets in the way, spin attack it and slip past.
- Once on top of the cake, blow out the candles with spin attacks, then take the Launch Star. A boss battle will begin.
- BOSS: Undergunner Grunt
- Search the arena for an isolated platform that has a Spring Mushroom. There will also be a Life Mushroom to the left of that platform (facing the boss)
- Bounce over to the grunt's pod and super jump up on it. Ground pound the pod to damage it.
- Immediately after you damage it, quickly super jump onto the pod again and ground pound it.
- This time, the grunt will fire an electrical discharge after shooting three bullets, frying Mario if he is standing on it. Wait for the grunt to expend a discharge for attempting to ground pound the pod again.
- After a third hit, the pod will be destroyed; collect the star.
Fast Foes of Toy Time (COMET)
- You begin at the Tox Box area of "The Flipswitch Chain". The level plays the same, except the Tox Boxes and traps move extremely fast this time. It's important to not attempt to jump over the trap when they slide as their speed makes the timing deceptively difficult.
Faster Than A Speeding Penguin
- Talk to the pink penguin near the goaline to begin the race.
- You need to beat the four penguins in a race around Sea Slide. Grab the Koopa shell at the start and move along the watery path.
- At the fork, take the right tunnel.
- At the brick wall, take the hole on the left and look for a ring that will grant a speed boost. There will be another speed boost ring after it. The rings should cement your victory.
The Silver Stars of Sea Slide
- You must explore Sea Slide for Silver Stars using Bee Mario. Get the Bee Mushroom dead ahead and look in the following locations listed below.
- Star 1 - Fly onto the cloud just ahead of the Bee Mushroom, then onto the stone arch.
- Star 2 - Take the cannon and launch yourself to the Starshroom. Use the Pull Stars to reach it.
- Star 3 - On top of the giant tree. Use the branches to climb up; watch out for spiders.
- Star 4 - In the air above a palm tree near the lighthouse
- Star 5 - Spin on the green valve handle to create a new path to the island in the center. The fifth star is right by the elder Penguin. Use the launch star to return.
Hurry, He's Hungry
- Choose "The Silver Stars of Sea Slide" and look for a Hungry Luma on the island with the cannon. Feed him and he will create a new planet; launch to it using the cannon.
- The new planet is exactly like Hurry-Scurry Galaxy, except that there is a note on literally every vanishing panel. The easiest method is to use Bee Mario here to fly yourself to safety if need be.
- When all the notes are caught, the black hole will be replaced with the star.
Underwater Cosmic Mario Race (COMET)
- Another Cosmic Bro. race; get to the Koopa shell asap and move forward quickly into the ocean.
- There are three speed boost rings to hit: 1. On the left hand side, 2. On the right side, 3. On the left again.
- At the shore, long jump to the star, behind the lighthouse.
- NOTE: This level is very difficult as Luigi; you must hit all three speed ring boosts to get a lead on Cosmic Luigi, and move very quickly with long jumps when at the land near the lighthouse.
Kingfin's Fearsome Waters
- The goal is to defeat Kingfin, the giant bony fish. Launch to the watery arena using the Starshroom's Launch Star.
- You must find a Koopa shell and kick it at Kingfin. The red shells will home in, but the green ones do not; it's best to aim the green ones as best as you can using the searchlight on the Koopa shell.
- After taking damage he will contiunously summon a pair of torpedo fish. Ignore them (if they close in, swim along the floor to avoid them).
- After taking two more hits, he will up the ante with four torpedo fishes. You will need to hit him two more times to defeat him (don't forget to grab air bubbles!). The star will then appear above an underwater geyser.
Choosing a Favorite Snack
- This level is unlocked by completing the level "Faster Than a Speeding Penguin". A Hungry Luma will appear by the telepad behind the Engine Room; feed it 1000 star bits.
- Avoid or take out the Magikoopas and use the sling star to reach the tunnel.
- Take the Boo Mushroom instead of the Bee Mushroom as it's a much easier time with it.
- Float down the tunnel avoiding the Boos and the light beams. To avoid the bubble blowers, hug the upper left or right of the tunnel.
- Get in the sling star at the end and warp to a new area. Grab the Starman before beginning.
- You have two choices: follow the spiral to the end, grabbing all the Starmen along the way, so that Mario plows through the mines and reaches the star safely. The other, quicker alternative is long jumping with a buffer to the wider greenish stone platforms deeper in the spiral, then run down the spiral to a curve that extends to the planetoid in the center and long jump to it.
- The star is on the planetoid at the center of the spiral.
King Kaliente's Spicy Return
- You will land near the launch star, trapped in a glass cage. Look for a lone Bill Blaster and get it to shoot a Bullet Bill. Lure it back to the cage and get it to smash it open.
- Launch it to the next area. Note that the mesh platforms will sink into the lava under Mario's weight. Grab the Life Mushroom and run forward to the end.
- Defeat the Octopi by reflecting their coconuts back at them, then use the launch star. You will have to face the boss.
- BOSS: KING KALIENTE
- Always stay on the move as the entire area is composed of the sinking mesh platforms. Wait for him to shoot a coconut, and reflect it back at him. He will reflect it back, so move quickly to intercept the deflected coconut and reflect it back again for damage.
- He will now send out a wave of blue flame creatures and shoot a coconut. Avoid the blue flames and reflect the coconut twice, as before.
- This time, he will send out waves of blue flames along with a constant shower of meteores. Avoid the chaos as best as you can and keep reflecting the coconut he shoots. You will need to reflect the coconut three times before it finally hits him, taking him down. Grab the star.
THE GATE
- The Gate and the Garden are both available after collecting all the Grand Stars. To access the Gate, look for a telepad behind the Engine Room and use it.
- Enter the small hut (the Gate itself) for a cutscene and the automatic start of the level "Gateway's Purple Coins".
- After completeing "Gateway's Purple Coins", you may also re-enter the Gate to re-play it and the level from the very beginning of the game, "Grand Star Rescue", if you choose to.
Gateway's Purple Coins
- Climb the stone dais where you first met Rosalina and talk with the red Luma.
- The Luma will spawn Red Stars next to him and across the level. Collect a Red Star to turn into Flying Mario.
- To fly, jump into the air and shake the Wiimote. Guide Mario with the analog; pull down to increase altitude, up to decrease. Note that Mario tends to drift downward when flying, if the analog is left alone.
- There are 30 Purple Coins in the air, and the rest are on the ground or placed on objects such as rooftops and rocks. Collect all 100 for a star.
- NOTE: Completing this level will unlock Red Star power-ups for use in the Observatory. They have no special function other than to allow the player to enjoy flying around the Observatory.
Racing the Spooky Speedster
- This level is unlocked by completing "Gateway's Purple Coins" in Gateway Galaxy. A Hungry Luma will appear outside the Gate; feed him 1200 Star Bits.
- Take the warp pipe.
- Grab the Boo Mushroom and phase through the wall. Follow the coins to the racing Boo and agree to a race.
- Follow the coins to stay ahead. Boo Mario can phase through the glass walls, so do so.
- You will encounter a 1-up behind a glass wall. Phase through the wall and grab it; it's part of a massive shortcut.
- Grab the ? Coin past the 1-up to turn on a fan. It will blow you back into the course proper, ahead of your rival.
- Grab the nearby ? Coin for another fan-powered boost. You should be far ahead of your rival by now.
- Follow the coin trail, grabbing another ? Coin for a boost.
- Avoid the spring robots and grab a fourth ? Coin for anothe boost, blowing Mario past the crushing walls.
- Stay on the coin trail as it heads right and grab another ? Coin for a boost.
- Follow the coin trail down to the home stretch. The skulls represent the finish line. . Make sure to go around the skulls as they cannot be phased through. If you win, you get a star.
THE GARDEN
- To access the Garden, use the telepad located next to the Gate. There is no Grand Star to collect in this hub, as all of them have been collected. However, the levels are much more difficult.
The Underground Ghost Ship
- Take out the crabs, then enter the cannon on the beach and aim Mario at the Starman floating in front of the moon ahead. Mario should collect the Starman in mid-air. Take out the octopi while invincible.
- When the enemies are gone, collect the Fire Flower and use the spring star to return to the beach.
- Before you run out of Fire power, head to the gate and light the crucibles. This will lower the gate open.
- Dive into the water and swim down. Swim into the cave near where the Blooper (white squid) is positioned.
- Spin attack into the blue lever to open the gate.
- Avoid the mines and swim upwards, grabbing air bubbles if you are low on air. Look for another blue lever next to the iron grate and spin attack it.
- Continue swimming up into a cavern with Boo's and a ship. Get on board the ship for a boss.
- BOSS: Kamella
- As before with this boss, dodge her fireball spells and spin attack her green spells. Use the Koopa shells the green spells make to damage her.
- After two hits, Kamella flees to the crow's nest and calls for support from Magikoopas. Climb the pole and jump into the crow's nest. Take out the Magikoopas and hit her with Koopa shells. Two more shells will bring her down. Take her star afterward.
Boo in a Box
- Choose the level "The Underground Ghost Ship".
- Play through the level as normal, except swim to the very bottom of the lake, where the shipwreck is.
- Find a Koopa shell nearby and kick it into the row of sea mines positioned around the stern-half of the shipwreck. Use the Launch Star.
- Next area: Mario is trapped in a box with a Boo and a spike ball; the pointer will change gravity when it's spin attacked. Use the flag poles to reach the pointer and hit it.
- Gravity will now change. Use the trampoline to hit the pointer again.
- After gravity changes, bounce on the trampoline so that the bubble blower catches Mario; hit the pointer when the bubble impacts against the pointer.
- Smash the crystal and lure the Boo into the light beam. It will drop a star.
- Use the bubble blower again to hit the pointer to reset gravity to normal. Get the star.
Bubble Blastoff
- Right off the bat is a boss battle on the beach.
- BOSS: Undergunner Grunt
- Use backflips/cartwheel jumps with a buffer to scale his pod and hammer him with ground pounds. He will fall quickly. Defeating him grants access to a cannon to for you to use.
- As with the previous level, use it to launch Mario at the Starman in the air. Defeat all the octopi and take the Fire Flower.
- Return to the beach using the sling star and light both crucibles on either side of the tunnel and a third one a little ways inside. This spawns an Ice Flower.
- As Ice Mario, run across the pool to a trio of fountainheads a Toad is standing near. Use the fountainheads to scale a pole upwards.
- Run to the left and use the platforms to cross the gap with the poles.
- Follow the grassy path and grab the ? Coin on the floating pedestal. The pedestal will suddenly transform into five sling stars; launch off on the middle one.
- Yellow columns will now block Mario's path to the left; let Mario be caught by a bubble from the bubble blowers so that he is launched over the yellow columns.
- Past the second yellow column are some flamethrowers; avoid them and climb the poles. Take out the Magikoopa here if you get a chance to.
- At the top is a bubble blower, a firebar, and a coin on top of the firebar. Stand where the coin is to get launched by the bubble blower to a new area.
- Next area: fish called Cheep Cheeps are bouncing around this damp planet. Ignore them or take them out with spin attacks, then ground pound the three corks. Use the bubble blower.
- Next area: a glassy sphere with a giant watermelon inside it. Three gold orbs are rolling around inside the sphere, and there is a droid constantly shooting ring waves. You must always watch for ring waves while you are completing this area.
- You must ground pound each of the three gold orbs when it passes underneath Mario. When this is done, the planet transforms into a giant watermelon; collect the star (watch out for the droid, it will still be shooting ring waves).
Guppy and the Underground Lake
- Enter the tunnel and dive into the underground lake.
- Swim to the very bottom and talk to Guppy.
- Simply follow him and swim through all of his rings. All of the enemies that may get in your way can be plowed through with spin attacks (save for the spike balls).
- If you win Guppy's game, you will get a star.
Ghost Ship Daredevil Run (COMET)
- You will have to defeat Kamella from "The Underground Ghost Ship" without taking any damage. The battle plays the same otherwise. It's important to get rid of the Magikoopas on sight. If things get too hectic in the crow's nest, don't be afraid to escape to the decks for a breather.
