THE FINAL BATTLE
- If you have 60 stars and have unlocked the Engine Room, you may complete the game at any time by talking to Rosalina. She will transport you to Bowser's Galaxy Reactor for the final showdown.
The Fate of the Universe
- Climb the wall using the gravity beams projected on the wall as "searchlights". Follow them up and then to the right, avoiding firebars.
- At the end is a Dry Bones and another gravity beam leading upward. Follow it, leaping over the firebars in your path.
- Climb up the steps to a tractor beam that will pull Mario to the sun ahead.
- Next area: the surface of a fiery sun. Race across the mesh platforms onto the conveyor-like rock path.
- Run against it to the other side, and follow the path of crumbling stone pedestals to the next tractor beam.
- Next area: slippery ice platforms will be created as Mario moves forward; they disappear after some time.
- Move slow enough through the ice platforms so that you do not outpace their creation, but not too slow so that they disappear under Mario's feet. Take the tractor beam at the end.
- Next area: a planet made of quicksand. Cross the platforms and rolling cylinders. Jump onto the top of the hubs the firebars are rotating around to avoid getting burned as you cross.
- Jump onto the conveyor-like stone path and follow it to the right. Again, you can avoid the firebars by leaping onto their hubs. Take the tractor beam on the left when you see it.
- Next area: more platforms that appear, then vanish. These are not slippery, but they will vanish more quickly.
- Follow them to the right and quickly wall jump up. At the top, run to the left and wall jump upwards.
- Follow the corridor to the right. Mario can walk on both the floor and the ceiling here; do so to avoid the firebars. Move quickly as the platforms are still vanishing as you move. At the end is a tractor beam.
- Next area: a lava tunnel filled with Bill Blasters. Some shoot Banzai Bills; these Bills are huge but fortunately do not track Mario.
- From your landing, long jump quickly towards the Bill Blasters ahead before their Bullet Bills can get in Mario's way. Head right and avoid the Thwomp.
- Quickly hop along the mesh platforms here. The Bullet Bills will be fired as you close in; stay low to the ground and close to the blasters to avoid them. Head right from the blasters.
- The third gantlet has a Banzai Bill cannon. Wait for him to be fired first before attempting the cross over the lava using the platforms. Follow the platforms to the right from the cannons.
- The next gantlet has a long distance from the start to the cannon. Hide behind a Bowser statue to avoid the Bills and keep moving forward.
- Use the platforms near the cannons to reach the ledges next to them that lead to the Launch Star. Launch off.
- Next area: run forward for a cutscene, then run forward as fast as you can, grabbing the Life Mushroom on the way. The final showdown begins.
- FINAL BOSS: Bowser
- Bowser begins with a series of ring waves. He will then transform himself into a boulder. Spin attack his exposed face, just like a regular "red-eyed boulder". Spin attack him after knocking him out of his boulder form while he's still stunned and sliding about.
- Bowser will retaliate with more ring waves, and then a fast moving version of his boulder attack. Knock him out of his boulder form again, then spin attack him twice while he is stunned.
- The fight moves to a new planet. Bowser will hurl fireballs, then curl into a ball and attempt to flatten Mario. Spin attack the green bulbs into Bowser while he is rolling, then hit him with a spin attack while he is stunned.
- He will respond with two fireball barrages, then the rolling attack again. Make sure to position a green bulb between you and him so that the bulb likely does not miss. Hit him with two spin attacks when he's stunned.
- The fight moves to the star reactor. Bowser will hurl ring waves, then perform his rolling attack. Dodge the attack and stay near a blue orb at all time. He will eventually cancel the rolling attack into his big stomp; dodge the stomp so that he lands on the blue orb and immolates his tail, as with previous Bowser fights. Spin attack his flaming tail, then himself when he's stunned.
- Bowser will go ape and send out a fireball barrage and along with five ring waves. He will then perform a very fast version of the rolling attack. Run perpendicular to his direction to avoid getting hit, and position yourself by a blue orb after he cancels it. Let him burn himself by stomping on a blue orb, then spin attack his tail, then spin attack him twice while he is still stunned.
- Collect the Grand Star to win the game. Congratulations on finishing Super Mario Galaxy. The Purple Comet levels are now unlocked, as is Luigi if you complete the game with 120 stars in total.
The Bonus Levels
- There are several optional levels within Super Mario Galaxy, all of which require some sort of prerequisite to unlock (sometimes including finishing the main game). They are listed below.
The Trial Galaxies
- You must complete the following levels to unlock the Trial Galaxies: "Luigi Under the Saucer" (Battlerock Galaxy), "The Secret Of Buoy Base" (Buoy Base Galaxy), "Treasure of the Pyramid" (Dusty Dune Galaxy)
- Once this is done, the green Launch Star near the Terrace will be usable. Use it to launch to the Trial Galaxy planet, and talk to the green Lumas to visit one of three galaxies.
Gizmos, Gears, and Gadgets
- This is another level involving riding a ball through an obstacle course, this time quite difficult. Hop onto the ball to begin.
- Go slow down the first incline and slowly cross the thin platform. If you crush the Goombas slowly, you shouldn't lose control of the ball. Grab the 1-up.
- On the other side are metal blocks. You need to break them by jumping into them at a decent speed. Break the ones on the left to reveal a drawbridge, then knock it too down by jumping into it.
- Smash the block at the end and launch using the hole.
- Grab the coins if you want, then drop into the hole. Slow the ball down after you come off the slide.
- Get to the rotating bridge and use it to cross the gap.
- Get the 1-up and jump onto the big gear. Wait for the big die block to move away from the platform you need to reach, then jump to it from the teeth of the gear.
- Quickly jump from the yellow platform to the big orange wheel, and go as fast as you can to the yellow gear on the other side, jumping over the Bob-Omb dispenser. If you are fast enough the Bob-Ombs will have no time to react.
- Carefully make your way to the checkered green ramp to begin a series of slides to the final area.
- Ignore the ? Coins and get onto the thin bridge from the gear. Move past the first floating die block (or use it to collect the 1-up if you like).
- You will need the second die block to get up to the ledge above. Wait for the block to drift to the right. It will loop around underneath the bridge to the other side; roll onto the block as it rises and from there roll onto the ledge.
- Drop the ball in the hole and climb the flag pole to get the star.
The Electric Labyrinth
- Mario begins on a platform with five warp pipes. Each pipe has a star chip to collect; the player must navigate through a deadly gantlet using the bubble controls from Bubble Breeze Galaxy to reach it. It's best to ignore the collectibles on this level and concentrate on surviving.
- Upper left pipe: Since this area has an easy 1-up, it's best to start this one first. Hop in the bubble and cross past the moving barriers always on the left hand side. Get the 1-up; past it is the star chip, in the center of the rotating barriers. It's best to take each rotating barrier slowly and one at a time. North of the rotating barriers is a sling star; use it to return to the starting point.
- Lower left pipe: Wait for the fire blowers to activate, then zip through. Grab the star chip, wait for the flame blowers to subside again, then zip back. The sling star is right behind the warp pipe; blow over to it and use it.
- Upper right pipe: Hop in the bubble and push the bubble through the minefield. The star chip is halfway through the course, it the center. Collect and move on to the sling star at the end.
- Lower right pipe: Avoid the pinballling electrodes and grab the star chip. Follow the path out. Never dodge the electrodes from the middle.
- Top pipe: The star chip is just north, behind the electric fence. Navigate to the left, then up, to the star chip, avoiding the rotating walls. The sling star is north of the star chip.
- With all five star chips, the Launch Star will form at the starting platform. Take it.
- Next area: this area is a checkpoint, but you will now have to endure one long obstacle course to the goal. Get in the bubble to begin.
- Take the route very slowly, following while avoiding the spring balls. Grab the easy 1-up in the center of the spinning gates.
- Two turns from the 1-up is a Bullet Bill cannon. When you see it, immediately head down as fast as possible to avoiding getting hit. Slow down near the end to take the turn; the Bullet Bill should've crashed into a spinning wall by that point.
- Stay in the middle at all times on the final route. You will avoid the mines and grab a 1-up in the process. Always move at a fast pace here, as this area is littered with Bullet Bill cannons.
- After the turn is the final stretch. Stay in the middle, collecting the coins and move fast as plenty of Bullet Bills will be in pursuit.
- After the third group of coins, move out of the middle or you will collide with a spring ball. Just past that spring ball is the star; grab it before the Bullet Bills catch you.
The Galaxy's Greatest Wave
- This is another manta ray race, only much tougher. You have three minutes to finish one lap around the course. Talk to the penguin coach to begin.
- At the start, stay in the middle to grab two 1-ups (take the first turn lightly to get the second).
- After the third turn is a massive drop; take the drop straight on and do not go too fast or you will overshoot/bounce off of the course.
- Past the red rings is a 1-up in the center of the track.
- Past the 1-up is a very long and narrow curve. Take this curve slowly, to avoid getting hurled off.
- Past the big curve is a loop-de-loop. For a big shortcut, you can simply surf off the loop-de-loop as it ramps upward to the left, onto the track past it. Otherwise, carefully follow the loop around.
- After the loop-de-loop is another big drop; slow down after you land to avoid losing control.
- Make a final right turn to the goal.
The Purple Comets
- These comets appear for every one of the "main" galaxies in the game after you complete the game by finishing the level Bowser's Galaxy Reactor. The general goal is to collect a set number of Purple Coins under various conditions.
Purple Coin Omelet (Good Egg Galaxy)
- Collect 15 coins on the first planet you begin on, then use the Launch Star.
- You will automatically collect 10 coins flying in space. Use the Launch Star in the middle of space to collect another 10 coins.
- On the egg-like planet, collect another 10 coins and use the Launch Star.
- In space, you will again collect 10 coins in flight. Use the Launch Star you pass through in space for another 10 coins.
- Avoid the boulders on the next planet and collect 15 coins. Use the Launch Star.
- Again, you will collect 10 coins in flight, then another 10 when you use the Launch Star you pass through in space.
- You should land on the planet you began on. The star will be nearby.
The Honeyhive's Purple Coins (Honeyhive Galaxy)
- Be very careful as a death will cause you to start from the beginning of this coin hunt; it pays to go for the more dangerous coins early. To get to the cliffs above the starting point safely: ground pound the rock close to the trapeze swing, and use the vine that appears. To get to the higher reaches of this area, ground pound the switches near the Wiggler.
- 5 coins behind Mario right where he lands.
- 1 coin behind the nearby fence, on a tiny cliff.
- 5 coins in the stream near the starting point.
- 3 coins on the slippery slope near the starting point.
- 1 coin above the ground pound-able rock close by the starting point. Break the ground pound-able rock nearby for a vine to use to reach the mountain.

- 5 coins behind the big tree.
- 3 coins sitting on a fence next to the stream the big tree is sitting in.
- 1 coin in the water near the Wiggler and the red button.
- 2 coins behind the tree Luigi was clinging to in "Luigi in the Honeyhive Kingdom" (it's close to the Wiggler).
- 3 coins are on the edge of a precipice south of the Wiggler.
- 5 coins are on the wall to the left of the Wiggler. Get these coins very carefully.
- 4 coins inside the passage you open by ground pounding the brown switch. Use wall jumps to get the first two; the last two are at the top.
- 2 coins are on top of the scaffolds at the peak of the mountain, and one is in the middle. Use wall jumps.
- 3 coins around the stream the scaffolds are sitting in.
- From the scaffolds at the peak of the mountain, climb the ledge to the right (facing the waterfall) and grab the 3 coins.
- Drop down from the three coins in the previous step to the ledge just below and to the left. Follow the path for 5 coins.
- At the end of the path in the previous step is a ledge down here with bugs and a small fountain. Search this area for 5 coins (one is hidden behind a crystal).
- Drop down to the big water fountain below for 5 coins.
- 2 coins behind the waterfall.
- 1 coin hidden inside the big stack of ground pound-able blocks next to the waterfall.
- 1 coin to be reached using the trapeze swing.
- 1 coin on the cliff underneath the trapeze swing coin.
- Climb over the cliff the coin in the previous step was on. 7 coins are past it; wall jump up the chimney to get them all.
- 2 coins on the plateau you've just reached by chimney jumping, overlooking the trapeze swing.
- Go back up the mountain. Get the 2 coins on the lip of the rock wall surrounding the scaffolds. It's best to backflip jump with a buffer to the first coin, then VERY slowly walk to the second.
- When you grab the second coin listed in the step above, the camera will show you a block below. Drop down to it for 1 coin.
- Next to the block in the previous step is another block with a coin. Drop down again to get access to the honey trails.
- 3 coins are next to the honeycomb fence that blocks access to this tunnel from the waterfalls.
- 5 coins on the big sliding slope you access by dropping down the hole outside the tunnel from the waterfalls. If you miss one, you will need to take the green warp pipe at the base here and climb back up the mountain again, then drop down once more.
- 2 coins by the green warp pipe at the base of the big sliding slope.
- 9 coins along the honey trails, along with a 1-up. Wall jump up the cliff near the base of the big sliding slope to reach them.
- When you finally have them all, the star appears at the starting point.
Purple Coin Spacewalk (Space Junk Galaxy)
- Two minutes to collect 100 coins amongst a space debris maze. They are spread out amongst 10 groups of 10 coins.
- Run forward and grab the first 10.
- Follow the path forward and to the right. Continue on to get the next 10.
- Follow the path to the right to get the next 10.
- Follow the path up and to the right to get the next 10 in the upper left corner.
- Follow the path to the left and when it curves upward, long jump to the 10 coin group in sight. Always use a buffer.
- Follow the path left to the next 10.
- Follow the path down and then to the left. Continue to the next 10.
- Go back the way you came; as you were following the path to the left, you may have noticed a route going south, made of small bloue blocks. Follow that path to the next 10.
- Follow the path to the right to the next 10. You will need to jump a small gap.
- Follow the path down and to the left for the last 10.
- The star will appear at the starting point. Follow the path down, right, and straight down to the star.
Purple Coins on the Battlerock (Battlerock Galaxy)
- You must not miss a single coin during the saucer ride or you will need to start over.
- From the instant you land, your saucer will start moving. Stand still and collect the first 5 coins.
- Jump to get the next two coins.
- Collect the group of six coins and collect the three coins lined up as the saucer drifts to them.
- Collect another group of six coins.
- Follow the coin trail around the roadblock for six coins. You should be at 28 coins.
- Grab another coin on the side of the saucer, under the roadblock, then head up and get the next three coins.
- Follow the long chain of coins when the saucer floats underneath it. It will curve underneath the saucer towards a life mushroom. Grab the next few coins beyond. You should be at 54 coins.
- Collect the two groups of six coins: one right in front of you, and one atop the saucer, surrounding a 1-up.
- Postion Mario so that the saucer drifts him right into the path of the coins in front of the big electric fence.
- Turn him so that his back faces the fence. Then do a backflip with a buffer over the fence right when Mario picks up the second coin from the fence. Mario should catch the coin in the air and clear the fence. If you hit the fence, you MUST run around the fence to the other side.
- Grab all the coins on the other side. You should be at 73 coins.
- Collect all the coins you see as the saucer drifts on. You should be at 89 coins when finished.
- You will need to do another backflip over the fence. Position Mario so that he drifts over the coin on the saucer and back flip over the fence after he collects that coin. You should grab all the coins and clear the fence.
- Collect all the coins past the fence. The star will appear nearby.
Beachcombing for Purple Coins (Beach Bowl Galaxy)

- One minute to collect a hundred stars. You need to use the pull stars to collect them. The star will appear in the center of the bone pen.
- Make a full clockwise jaunt around the perimeter of the bone pen, collecting coins. Stay along the perimeter. Do not move too fast or Mario might start bouncing about.
- Once you are at the beginning again, move into the center and sweep along the rim of pull stars further in the center, collecting coins you had passed by on the first sweep.
- When you've made close to a full circle around the pen, head to the center and collect as many coins as you can to get the star to appear, then quickly grab it in the center of the bone pen.
Purple Coins on the Puzzle Cube (Gusty Garden Galaxy)
- You have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to collect 100 out of the 150 coins on the cube-shaped planet. Ignore any Goombas in your way; either jump over them or shoot them out of the way with a star bit.
- From the start, collect 22 coins around the water fountain on the face of the cube planet you start on.
- Head down the path the sign is facing. Collect the 7 coins strewn about on the ground (six are in a group and one is off to the right).
- Jump onto the hedge near the cluster of coins you just collected and work your way around to the opposite corner of the cube face, collecting all 24 coins. You should now be at 53 coins.
- From the opposite corner of the cube face your are on, follow the hedge straight ahead as it curves over the side of the face. You are now back at the face of the cube you started on, on top of the hedge. Grab the three coins here and long jump to the hedge on the other side. You should now be at 56 coins.
- Head left to follow the hedge to the next cube face. Collect the 4 coins on the box and the hedge here, then long jump to the hedge to the right.
- Follow the path along the hedge on this side of the cube face. Collect all the coins on the way. You should now be at 73 coins.
- Drop down into the grass and collect 8 coins. They may not all be visible thanks to the camera angle, so as you run around on the hedges, keep an eye on the grass for the location of the 8 coins. You should now be at 81 coins.
- After getting the 8 coins, go down the rabbit hole. Follow it out to the other side (get the 1-up if you like).
- Exiting the rabbit hole, run forward and then around the thin hedges, going towards the right. You will grab 3 coins on the ground on the way. Ignore the coins on top of the hedges, you don't need them. You should be at 84 coins.
- You should be in an area with a few small star bit gardens and rectangular hedges with coins. Collect all the coins here. You should have 101 coins if you collect every single one.
- When you have 100 coins, the star will spawn back at the fountain on the starting cube face. Your location is right next to it. Run to the cube face towards the left; a star bit garden will be near the path that curves over into the cube face.
- Collect the star on the fountain.
Purple Coins on the Summit (Freezeflame Galaxy)

- Drop down off the cliff and get the ? Coin below. It turns into a sling star. Use it to launch back up, getting a coin in the process.
- Collect 3 coins to the right on a precipice near by a shivering Toad. Go back to the Ice Flower at the end of the platform chain.
- As Ice Mario, run to the ledges north and collect 2 coins. Cross the gaps using the wall faces for 3 more coins. Use the sling star to reach two fountainheads to scale to Baron Brrr's arena, getting 5 more coins in process (10 coins total). You must be Ice Mario the whole time during this process.
- There are 18 coins in Baron Brrr's arena: on the platforms, in the chimney onto Baron's pedestal, on Baron's pedestal and hidden behind crystals on the right-hand side. After collecting them all, head back to the fountain with the Ice Flower at the bottom of the mountain.
- At this point, you should have 80 coins. Head back down the mountain to the Ice Flower in the fountain at the bottom.

- Long jump right off the peak, with the Toad to Mario's left. Guide Mario in mid-air so that he lands on a tiny cliff with one coin.
- Long jump to the next tiny cliff with one coin. If you have followed the steps correctly, you should have all 100 coins.
- Use the sling star, it will launch you back to the beginning.
- If you have all the coins, the star will spawn by the starting point.

- You will land on the left-hand fork. Collect the 5 coins on the path. Use a long jump to collect the two above the quicksand.
- Get the lone coin on the sandy dais. Ignore the coins above for now.
- Use one of the other Tweesters (ahead, from the Tweester with the 4 coins) to collect 2 coins above him.
- There will be a single coin to the right of the Tweester in the previous step. A Dry Bones usually hangs around it.
- VERY carefully collect the 3 coins to the right of the Tweester on the far right of this area.
- Use the Tweester in the previous step to fly up to three coins floating in the air, towards the hole to the next area.

Luigi's Purple Coins (Toy Time Galaxy)
- This is arguably the most difficult of the purple comets. Collect 100 of the 150 coins on "Luigi", who is composed of vanishing panels, flip panels, and dark matter. There is a three minute time limit, but there is more than enough time to collect 100 coins; the real danger is dying.
- From your starting position, make your way towards Luigi's head, up the left side of his body, and continue to the right across his face, down the right side of this body. At his feet, long jump back to the star's location; you should have enough.
- You MUST use buffered jumps here. Jump to each coin and spin in the air to control Mario's jump. This way you avoid spending more vanishing/flip panels than necessary.
- To get the groups of coins floating in space, jump into them then buffer back to safety on another platform.
- To get purple coin trails that are floating above dark matter/voids, just long jump through the trail. You can rack up many coins near "Luigi's" feet this way.
- The star will appear at the starting point when you have enough coins. If you are running low on time, use long jumps to return back quickly, controlling your jump with air brakes and buffering.

- At the third lift, you must move VERY fast. Collect every coin you see up to the Thwomp. Wall jump up the Thwomp and grab three coins. You cannot collect the bottommost of the three coins if the Thwomp is all the way up; if this is the case, wait for it to land again.

- Collect all the coins in front of the first ring wave droid. You should have 95 coins after doing so.
- Next, long jump to the ring wave droid and bounce up to collect 4 coins (you can also wait for the lift to stop first, althought that will put you in range of another ring wave droid). You should now have 99 coins.
- Bounce on the second ring wave droid to the Launch Star. Launch off.
- Mario will collect the final coin in mid-flight. Get your hard-earned star after you land.
