The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII. The game was held at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on January 26, 2003. The match up was referred to as the "Gruden Bowl," as coach Jon Gruden had left the Raiders in 2002 to take over as head coach for the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers became first team to score three defensive touchdowns in a Super Bowl. Dexter Jackson, a safety for Tampa Bay, totaled two interceptions and was selected as the Super Bowl MVP.
How They Got There
The Buccaneers finished the regular season on top of the NFC South Division with a 12-4 record. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles for their first NFC title.
