The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 55-10 in Super Bowl XXIV. The victory allowed the 49ers to join the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, and Green Bay Packers as the only franchises to win consecutive Super Bowl championships (Pittsburgh accomplished the feat twice).
It also marked the third time in four years, and fourth time overall, that Denver had lost the Super Bowl. The Minnesota Vikings were the only other franchise at this point in history to lose four Super Bowl games. The Niners established Super Bowl records for most points scored (55) and largest margin of victory (45). Quarterback Joe Montana became the first player in Super Bowl history to win the game's MVP award three times.
That was easy
Rookie head coach George Seifert, who had served as defensive coordinator the previous six seasons, took over the 49ers from retired coach Bill Walsh. He led the Niners to a 14-2 record, winning the NFC West title. Following two playoff wins in which San Francisco outscored Minnesota and Los Angeles by a combined score of 71-16, Seifert became just the second rookie coach to win a Super Bowl, joining Don McCafferty from Super Bowl V.
