The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-3 in Super Bowl VI. After years of struggling to win "The Big One", Dallas finally won it's first league championship. The Cowboys had lost to Green Bay in the 1966 and 1967 NFL Championship Games, then lost to Cleveland in the division round playoffs in 1968 and 1969, and finally to Baltimore in Super Bowl V. Former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Roger Staubach led the Cowboys to victory and was named the game's MVP.
Flipper's Bunch:
The Dolphins were in just their sixth season of existence, and second under legendary coach Don Shula. But they won the AFC East with a 10-3-1 record, and they won two playoff games against the previous two Super Bowl champions. In the division round of the playoffs on Christmas Day, they needed two overtimes to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24. Then in the AFC Championship Game, they defeated the Baltimore Colts 21-0 to advance to the Super Bowl.
Ride 'em Cowboys:
The Cowboys won the NFC East in 1971 with a league best 11-3 mark. Then they defeated both the Minnesota Vikings 20-12 and then the San Francisco 49ers 14-3 to win their second straight NFC title. The team initially struggled as both Staubach and Craig Morton split time at quarterback. Finally, with the team 4-3 at the halfway point of the season, coach Tom Landry settled on Staubach as the starter, and they never lost another game all season.
