As millions of fans gather to watch the Super Bowl and the numerous commercials each year, often times memorable quotes arise from the game, the advertisements and the events leading up to the game.
In addition to the quotes from commercials and Super Bowl announcers, many of the quotes come from the participating athletes themselves, either in comments made during Super Bowl media day and as reactions to the game. On one occasion, prior to Super Bowl XXII, one reporter asked Washington Redskins quarterback Doug Williams how long he'd "been a black quarterback." Julie Brown made her own quote prior to Super Bowl XXVIII when she asked then-Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith what he was going to wear to the Super Bowl that Sunday.
Many choose to tune into live coverage of Super Bowl media day waiting for a reporter or athlete to misspeak. Similarly, many of the players will offer their predictions about the game, such as the Joe Namath "guarantee" to win Super Bowl III in 1969. Namath not only led the New York Jets over the Baltimore Colts for the 16-7 win, but he also took home the Super Bowl MVP award.
