  • The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in the 1967 NFL-AFL World Championship Game. Packers quarterback Bart Starr was named the first ever Most Valuable Player by throwing for 250 yards passing and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Max McGee, who caught just four passes all season, came into the game for injured Boyd Dowler and grabbed 7 receptions, 2 for touchdowns, as the Packers easily outpaced the Chiefs.
  • Came about through merger

After six years of football's civil war between the established NFL and the upstart AFL, a merger agreement between the two leagues was reached prior to the 1966 season. As part of the deal to allow the existing AFL teams to be absorbed into the NFL, the two leagues agreed on a common draft, a schedule of exhibition games, and four end-of-season "World Championship" games between the two league champions. The two leagues would run separate schedules and playoffs, and the 1966 Packers-Chiefs match-up would be the first time the two teams ever played on the field.
  • How they got there:

The Packers, in the midst of a decade of dominance, finished the regular season with a 12-2 record and the NFL Western Conference title. They then defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the 1966 NFL Championship Game 34-27. The Chiefs finished the regular season with an 11-2-1 record to win the AFL Western Division title, and then defeated the Buffalo Bills 31-7 in the |AFL Championship Game.
