Sun Records is a recording company founded by Sam Phillips. Sun helped lay the foundation of late 20th century music inspiring new a new type of music—rock and roll. The Sun Record Company, Memphis Recording Service was designated a National Historic Landmark on July 31, 2003.

Logo
The label's logo design—sun rays surrounded by stylized musical notes—has gone on to become a popular a T-Shirt insignia. However, the design was actually based on the logo of another Sun Records, headquartered in New York City and focused on Jewish ethnic music. (The rooster pictured beneath the logo appears to be original.)
