Sufjan Stevens is an American Singer-Songwriter who specializes in lyrically focused and instrumentally rich songs that are often related to family and faith. He achieved incredible critical success with his 2005 concept album Illinois.
Background
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Stevens began experimenting with music at an early age and taught himself to play many different instruments, including the guitar, piano, drums, banjo and oboe. After recording his debut album (A Sun Came) while still in college, he moved to New York City and founded the label Asthmatic Kitty Records.
