• A Subwoofer is a driver or entire speaker that specifically reproduces bass audio frequencies.

  • History:

The subwoofer was invented by Ken Kreisel in the 1960s. He and a partner owned a high quality sound systems store. When custumers complained about some electrostatic speakers not producing bass frequencies that conventional speakers produce, Kreisel decided to make a speaker to fill in the gap. He developed a speaker to produce only the bass frequencies the electrostatic speakers could not produce. Thus the subwoofer was born.
