Submarine Collision

  • Two nuclear submarines collided in the Atlantic Ocean sometime around February 3 or 4 of 2009. The crash occurred between Great Britain's HMS Vanguard and France's Le Triomphant. A spokesperson for Britain's Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament said the collision could have been a disaster, and called the event "a nuclear nightmare of the highest order."Telegraph: British and French Nuclear Submarine Collision...     Both submarines carried nuclear weapons. Kate Hudson, head of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, said the collision was "the most severe incident involving a nuclear submarine since the sinking of the Kursk, and the first time since the Cold War that two nuclear-armed subs are known to have collided."
