  • Nougat is a thick candy with a consistency similar to caramel. Honey is a common ingredient, but sugar can be used instead. The two basic types are white nougat and brown nougat. White nougat is made from beaten egg whites and has a softer more airy texture than brown nougat. Brown nougat is made from caramelized sugar and is heavier and more crunchy. Nougat often contains nuts or dried fruits.
  • Nougat Origins

The history of nougat is a topic not all historians agree upon. Most historians believe that it originated in ancient Rome where a dessert of honey, eggs and almonds was reserved only for special occasions. French historians think that nougat originated from a walnut dessert from Greece.
