On February 16, 2008, a crowd of spectators apparently watching a street car race were hit by a vehicle. The driver lost control of his car on Route 210 in Accokeek, Maryland, 20 mile south of Washington, DC at approx. 3:40 a.m. The initial reports state that eight people were killed and at least five others injured. Eyewitnesses told the Associated Press that a crowd of roughly 50 people stood at the side of the road to watch two cars race when a third, trailing vehicle, with no headlights, plowed into the group.
