Street Fighter

Street Fighter was the first in a series of fighting games produced under the same name by Capcom. The original Street Fighter game was released as an arcade game in 1987. Because of its popularity, the game was later ported to a variety of gaming systems, including a version for the personal computer. In January 2009, an innovative fan designed an interactive video series for YouTube called "YouTube Street Fighter." Using YouTube's annotation and links system, the videos created a game where the viewers could decide on the action of the action figure characters.NewTeeVee: Street Fighter becomes interactive YouTube video (January 23, 2009)

History

Street Fighter came on the video game scene as something of a novelty in 1987: a one on one fighting game. Arcade games were on the decline and the home gaming industry was still in it's infancy. Street Fighter debuted in Japan first, following in the same footsteps as other games such as Hang On, Out Run and Afterburner. 3D games were beginning to change the industry. Street Fighter became so popular that it spawned a clone: SNK's Street Smart.GameSpot: The History of Street Fighter
