Normal moves are simply the attacks your character performs whenever you press an attack button. Some characters have what are referred to as "command normals" which are normal moves that can be performed by pressing a direction at the same time.

Special moves are special attacks that require you to perform a certain command. This means Ryu's fireballs, Chun Li's Lightning Legs or Zangief's Spinning Piledriver. These are the signature moves that often lie at the center of a character's arsenal.

EX moves are more powerful versions of special attacks that are performed by pressing two of the attack button at the end of a special move command. So, to do an EX fireball with Ryu, press two punches instead of one at the end of the command. Some EX moves have special and useful properties.

Super moves are extremely powerful and flashy attacks that spend Super Meter when performed. You build Super Meter by hitting your opponent. When your Meter is full, perform the Super command, which is usually more challenging than regular special move commands, to do a super move.

Ultra moves are even more powerful versions of Supers, and require full Revenge Gauge to perform. You'll build Revenge automatically as you take damage during a fight.
