  • Alternate Costumes

Each character in Street Fighter 4 will have an alternate costume to go along with their regular costume, which comes in six different colors. The alternate costumes will be available as paid downloadable content. Although the Collector's Edition of the game comes with codes for downloadable costumes, Capcom has not made clear how many (or which) costumes the codes will be good for.

The alternate costumes were originally available in the arcade version of the game, where they had to be purchased with in-game money that was earned over a large amount of playtime.GiantBomb: '"Street Fighter IV Alternate Costume Show (January 27, 2009)

  • Story

The game is set between the events of Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III. The English translation of a Japanese flyer released during AOU 2008 states:

"The year after the legendary World Warrior Championship (SFII) it silently begins. Suspicious incidents occur, and behind it a mystic organization is on the move in the shadows. Those chasing and being chased in the complicated middle of friendship and betrayal. Now, the curtain rises and a new fight begins."

  • Gameplay

Street Fighter IV returns to the gameplay style of Street Fighter II, with the mechanics made simpler and more accessible for a general audience while hoping to retain the depth that will attract hardcore players.1up.com: The 1UP Show 12/19/08

Parries, a move in Street Fighter III that let players use minute timing to nullify the damage of any attack, have been eschewed in Street Fighter IV for Focus Attacks. Focus Attacks are performed by pressing two attack buttons at the same time, and allow the player to nullify damage and perform a counter attack, depending on how long the buttons are held down for. Focus Attacks can also be canceled into a forward dash, allowing for follow-up attacks and combos.

The producers of Street Fighter IV have stated that a main influence on the feel of SFIV is Super Street Fighter II Turbo, which recently saw an HD upgrade and re-release on modern consoles.GameVideos.com: Street Fighter IV 'Producer' interview
