John Woo Presents Stranglehold Info
John Woo Presents Stranglehold is the video game sequel to Hard-Boiled, a 1992 action film directed by John Woo and starring Chow Yun-Fat. It offers both a single-player campaign mode and a competitive multiplayer mode. Similar to bullet-time features in other games, Stranglehold introduces Tequila Time. In addition to slowing the gameplay down, Tequila Time allows the player to choose targets and attack them in a cinematically appealing style.GameSpot: John Woo Presents Stranglehold Review -

General Gameplay Tips
- Tequila Time: Much like bullet-time, this allows you to slow down the action. It gives you the ability to move and act faster than your enemies. You can activate this manually by hitting RB. However, it automatically activates when you have an enemy in your sites in combination with you diving/dodging or utilizing the environment such as running on railings, swinging from chandeliers, and using zip lines.
- Style Points: The more stylish the kill, the more Style Points you earn. If you just dive through the air and shoot someone the points you earn will be low, but if you slide down a railing, utilize an environment kill and take down numerous enemies all in one motion, you'll earn a lot of Style Points. The more stylish kills you string together the more points you are able to receive. Style Points also help in filling your Tequila Bomb meter.
- Paper Cranes: These are spread throughout every level, and they fill your Tequila Bomb meter. A chirping sound can be heard if one is close to you.
- Tequila Bomb: There is a meter in the lower left hand corner of the screen which will fill when you get a crane or high amounts of Style Points. On this meter there are four circles. Each circle is its own special move. You are able to use each move when the Tequila Bomb meter fills to its particular circle.
- Heal: This is the first ability that will be unlocked. It allows you to use any available Tequila Bomb to heal yourself. If there are no health packs close to you this move can save your life.
- Precision Aim: This is the second ability you will gain. It simultaneously enters you into Tequila Time while you zoom in on a far off enemy. This is great for dealing with snipers, hitting far off environment kills, getting head shots and it comes in handy during many boss battles.
- Barrage: This ability is unlocked about half way through the second mission. This gives you infinite ammo with any weapon for a short period of time. You are also invulnerable to enemy attacks while using barrage. This attack can be great for charging large groups of enemies that are localized to a single area. It also comes in handy during numerous boss battles.
- Spin: This ability is unlocked at the beginning of the third mission. This ability leaves you stationary while you spin around and kill every enemy who's present no matter where in the room they are. During this you're invulnerable to bullets. This attack is great when you're surrounded by numerous enemies in all directions.
- Environment Kills: These are areas in the environment that can be utilized in order to kill enemies. They are marked by glowing spots that appear on them. Some of the most common ones are exploding barrels, falling rocks, hanging signs, air conditioners, lights, and metal beams. There are also things such as rolling carts, zip lines, railings, and chandeliers that can be utilized throughout the environment.
- Cover: Each mission gives you areas in which to take cover. It's important to utilize this because no matter how much you use Tequila Time you're still going to get shot. While you're in cover you can lean out and, if an enemy is in view, you'll automatically enter Tequila Time.

Weapons
- Pistol: This is the most common weapon in the game. The downside to that is the fact that it isn't that powerful, but you can always find ammo for it. This can take down the most common enemies, but the harder (rarer) enemies, which includes bosses, should be dealt with using a more powerful gun.
- Golden Pistol: This is a very powerful weapon that is hard to come by. When you do get it try to save it for when you have a Barrage or Spin Attack as it never has much ammo. It's hard to find ammo for this gun, and, even though it's powerful, it doesn't help in a boss battle.
- Shotgun: A powerful weapon with plentiful ammo, but it's a close range weapon. This can be found in every level, and works amazingly when surrounded at close range.
- Submachine Gun: This weapon becomes more plentiful the further you get in the game. It's powerful at close range, but becomes less accurate the farther off your enemy is.
- Assault Rifle: This is an excellent long range weapon, and the ammo for it is plentiful. It can be extremely useful during boss battles, but it's inaccurate when surrounded at close range.
- Heavy Machinegun: This gun is rare, and so is its ammo. If you find it, use it in combination with a Barrage or a Spin Attack. Try and keep it for boss battles as it is the best long range weapon in the game.
- Grenades: These show up later in the game, and they become plentiful. They are powerful and great for clearing out groups of enemies. These can work nicely in boss battles if you're accurate with them.
- Rocket Launcher: This is an amazingly powerful weapon, but it only appears late in the game with minimal ammo. If possible use this during boss battles, and in combination with a Barrage attack it's the greatest weapon you can get your hands on.

Chapter 1: Hong Kong Marketplace
- NOTE: The videos embedded below are taken from various sources around the Web, and so may present an alternative strategy to our written walkthrough.
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Hong Kong Marketplace PT. 1 (Time: 8:36) | PT. 2 | PT. 3
- TIP: Numerous tutorial tips pop up throughout this level, and if you follow these tips you can learn the general game play.
- When the game starts grab the pistol ammo to your right.
- Go up the stairs. Kill the two enemies at the top of the steps. Keep moving forward.
- TIP: Keep picking up ammo and new weapons as you move through the level.
- Go down the next set of stairs, and you'll be in an area with a large fountain in the center. Here, enemies will come at you from all directions. Just keep diving and shooting in Tequila Time.
- When they've been taken care of go up the steps where the last batch of enemies came from. Grab the health pack on your right.
- TIP: Keep an eye out for health packs that are planted around each level.
- Continue on until you reach a large set of stairs going down. Here you should utilize the railing. Slide down the railing. Kill enemies as you go.
- TIP: Look around the environment for objects that you can utilize to take out enemies. There will often be objects you can shoot down that will fall and kill an enemy or things that you can shoot to cause an explosion near an enemy. Enviroment kills/interactions are marked by a glowing spot that appears on them.
- At the bottom of the stairs is a small market area where you need to keep diving around and killing enemies in Tequila Time.
- You will come to another area with a large set of stairs going up. Run up the railing, and shoot the enemies that pop out. At the top of the stairs you'll reach a checkpoint.
- Follow the alleyway. At its end there's a door on the left that goes into a kitchen. Make your way through the kitchen. Grab the paper crane that's on top of the three crates.
- Head back outside, and a short way down the alley a cut scene will start.
- There's a guy with a shotgun right in front of you. Deal with him, and take it for yourself. Enemies will come at you from all directions so just keep diving and shooting. There are also numerous stands here to take cover behind. Eventually a gate will burst open and two enemies with shotguns come out blasting. Take them down, and grab their shotgun ammo.
- When they're down head through the gate they came from. Follow the alley. More enemies will pop out so take them out as you go.
- TIP: There is another crane with some boxes above the door on your right. Shoot at it to get the crane.
- You'll come to a door that leads inside. Go up some stairs where you'll hit another checkpoint. Go inside, and follow the hallway until you get back outside.
- Go up the stairs and you'll encounter your first standoff. Here you'll need to shoot the enemies while dodging the bullets they fire. Use the same button as always to fire while aiming with the right stick. Dodge their fire with the left stick. When this is over you'll get another checkpoint.
- Kill the enemies that come at you. Go through the marketplace. Keep an eye out for the enemies on high ground.
- TIP: In the marketplace there is a crane on a roof to your right. Shoot at it until it falls to claim it.
- Deal with the enemies here. There is a pole in the middle of the area on the left. Shoot the pole, and it will fall to a leaning position against the fence. Run up and over the pole to enter the next area.
- You'll run into more enemies here, but you can just shoot the large neon sign on the left. It will fall and take out everybody on the ground just leaving the guy who was standing near the sign. After that there are more enemies on the ground to deal with. Take them out. Go into the door at the back of the area.
- Go through the building. Grab the health pack near the exit if you need it.
- Go outside, and kill the enemies to your right.
- TIP: There are a few cranes in this area, so keep yours eyes peeled as you make your way through.
- At this point you will unlock Precision Aim. Follow the tutorial. Use Precision Aim to take out the rest of the enemies on the high ground in this area.
- Continue on and take out the enemies on the ground. Head into the door at the end of the alley. Grab the health pack, and you'll get another checkpoint.
- TIP: Just inside the building there is an old door with cracks and holes in it that you reach about the time you get the checkpoint. Shoot that door, and you can pick up the Golden Pistols on a table inside. The only problem is that you have to swap out your shotgun or pistols to do so, but the Golden Pistols are very powerful.
- Outside you will find yourself in another standoff, which is the same as before, so just shoot and dodge. You can shoot the person or an object near them in order to take them down. Afterwards you'll get another checkpoint.
- Keep following the alley, take out a few more enemies, and a cut scene will start.
- Go down the alley where a few enemies on scaffolding can be taken out with Precision Aim as well as a few on the ground. When all the enemies in this area are dead you'll get another checkpoint.
- TIP: On the left there's a boarded up area. Shoot it and grab the Submachine Guns before you continue on. The best thing to do is to save them for the boss battle.
- Grab the health pack, and go inside. Follow the hallways, and another cut scene will start.
- A bunch of thugs will start coming at you so just stay behind the pillars where you start. Use them as cover, and then just keep popping out to pick them off. There is a health pack on the wall closest to you if you need it at any point. Keep an eye out for the enemies on the balcony up top.
- TIP: You don't have to stay behind the pillars, but it helps. If you need more health packs they are around the room, but be careful when you're getting to them.
- After you kill a bunch of these thugs you'll get a checkpoint followed by Kwong Fang coming out with a Rocket Launcher.
-
BOSS: Kwong Fang
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Kwong Fang Boss (Time: 1:26)
- Avoid his rockets by stepping or diving out of the way.
- When you get out of the path of any rockets just keep firing on him. You can even go into Precision Aim, and give him a few shots directly to the head, which works really well.
- If you grabbed the Submachine Guns you can simply keep diving around in Tequila Time and shooting him.
- As long as you avoid the rockets it isn't a difficult battle.
- If you need health there's always the health packs around the room or you can hit left on the D-pad to convert Tequila Bomb to health.
-
Chapter 2: Tai O
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Tai O PT. 1 (Time: 1:37) | PT. 2 | All Parts
- This level starts with a sniper's laser sight on you. Get out of the way of this, and go into Precision Aim to take him out quickly.
- Go up the dock, and take out the enemies in the building. After they're down you'll get a phone call.
- You have to take out nine drug tables marked by black smoke coming out of buildings. If you look you'll see black smoke coming out of the building you just blasted. More enemies will come at you so just follow them into the building.
- You'll eventually come to a room with the first drug table. Stand back and shoot it until it blows up. It blows a hole in the wall revealing the second drug table. Take it out, and then take cover against the wall. Kill the enemies before heading outside.
- There is more black smoke coming from the buildings across the way. Make your way to the first one on the right. Go around the left side of the building. Go up the stairs. Take out the enemies. Shoot the pole to knock it over.
- Run up the pole, and shoot the glowing spot on the roof. Drop down into the building, and destroy the two drug tables inside.
- Head out the open door, and over to the next house. You'll have to go down by the docks, and circle around the house. Kill the enemies on the steps. Go up to the pole on the left.
- Shoot the pole, and knock it down. Run across the pole, and shoot the glowing spot on the roof. Drop inside the building. Take out the drug tables. Exit through the open door, and go to the next house.
- In the next house there are three drug tables. Shoot them, and a cut scene will show a bridge being lowered.
- Continue on and shoot the enemies in the next room. Outside you'll reach the bridge that you saw being lowered. Go across it, and a health pack can be found in the room on the other side.
- Around the side of the small building there's a zip line going down.
- TIP: There are a few enemies down there. You can use Precision Aim to take them out before hand, or you can do it on the zip line when you enter Tequila Time as you slide down.
- In the first building at the bottom you'll find another crane.
- You'll find another zip line by this building. As you're sliding, shoot the glowing spot on the rocks to your right. This will cause the rocks to fall and take out the enemies below.
- Follow the path, and shoot the glowing spot on the rocks to your left to take out the enemies in front of you. Keep going until you reach a tin roof.
- TIP: There is a crane to the left if you need it.
- Drop down the hole in the roof. Kill the two enemies below. Find the poles outside. Shoot them to knock them down, and they will lead you out towards the boats. Run across them to the next dock.
- Shoot the supports for the bridge, which will cause it to drop. Once it's down, go across, and kill the enemies that come at you.
- Follow the path, and you'll come to a metal blockade. Shoot the glowing rocks on the right to take it out easily.
- Use the blockade for cover when taking out the enemies on the other side, which includes another sniper. Use your Precision Aim on him, and then continue on.
- TIP: Go up the stairs of the blockade to find a crane.
- Trudge through the water, and go around the first corner. Shoot the glowing spot on the rocks to the left to take out the enemies in front of you. You'll come to a wooden walkway and a checkpoint.
- Across from you is a small village where you are asked to take out 16 drug tables. Run across the wooden beams, and you'll unlock your next attack called Barrage. Use it to make your way into the building on your right. Destroy the three drug tables in the next house.
- Go left outside to find some demolished wooden steps. Shoot the beam on the left, and run up it to the next room. Shoot the next beam, and then go across to the next roof. An enemy will shoot up through the floor. Take him out then turn right. Use Precision Aim to kill the enemy a few roofs over.
- Shoot the next beam down. Go across to the adjacent rooftop, and then head down the beam to reach a doorway. Blast the enemies inside the building, and then enter.
- On your right is a group of enemies. Kill them, and then start blowing up drug tables. There should be six drug tables in this building.
- Kill the enemies shooting through the tin windows. Blast the wooden doorway on the right of the windows to get inside. Destroy two more drug tables, and then head up the stairs. Kill the two enemies up there, and destroy the drug table.
- Go out the door, and take down the enemies. There is another drug table in the small room to the left to take out.
- Follow the roof to another small room, and take out the last drug table. When this is done you should see a bridge being lowered as well as getting a checkpoint.
- Go across the bridge, and follow the path. You'll drop off a rock, and come to some more tin shacks. Kill the enemies on the walkway in front of you, and then turn your attention to the enemies on the right.
- When they're dead shoot the supports for the walkway so that it will drop. Go up the walkway, and then up the beam to reach the top building.
- Blast the planks at the back of the room, and then, in the next room, shoot the supports for the walkway. When it drops, walk up it, and continue on to the zip line. Take out the enemy who runs out while you're on the zip line.
- At the bottom look to your left. Deal with the sniper and any other enemies.
- Follow the stairs up to the top, and keep blasting enemies. Go through the room at the top. On your left is a path through the rocks. Follow the path until a cut scene plays.
- Kill the enemies to your left, and continue along the rocks.
- When you hit the water, take out the enemies on your right. Keep following the path, and you'll hit a checkpoint at another small shanty town.
John Woo Presents Stranglehold #2 from GamesPress
- You have to take out 10 drug tables. Drop down to the next area, and kill the first few enemies. Go up the stairs on the right. There are two buildings up here with enemies in them. Kill the enemies, and destroy the four drug tables in the two buildings.
- Go back downstairs, and follow the walkways to the far end. There are plenty of enemies here, so keep diving and shooting. Take out two drug tables here.
- TIP: Don't use the zip line until all but two drug tables are left.
- Go back to the first two buildings you took out. Follow the top walkway until you reach another building high against the rocks with black smoke coming out. Take out the enemies, and destroy the drug tables in this building.
- Zip line down to the last set of shacks. Kill the enemies, and destroy the drug tables. Once they've been destroyed a cut scene will play.
- Get up the stairs, and take out the sniper on the ship. Then zip line down to the area close to the ship.
- Go in the door to the ship. Take out enemies, and make your way to the top of the ship where you'll be in another standoff. Once they're all down a cut scene will start.
- You are now manning the gun on the helicopter. As the helicopter flies you around shoot at the enemies you see. This can be tough when the enemies start shooting rockets, but when this happens just use Tequila Time to slow things down. There are a couple of ships to clear out.
- TIP: Look for yellow barrels, drug tables, or anything to take out enemies more easily. Always destroy the rockets that are coming at you before you worry about the gunfire.
- The helicopter will finally drop you off, and you'll get a checkpoint. You now have to plant four bombs on the tankers spewing black smoke. As soon as you get dropped off the tanker right behind you becomes filled with enemies. Start blasting away at them, and get down to the boat. Use the walkways off to your right to make your way towards the ship.
- Once on board take out the enemies. Find the spot at the back of the ship to place the bomb. Once the bomb is placed, get off the ship. When you're clear the bomb will automatically blow.
- Keep going across the walkways, and look for the red ships. When you get near a ship that you must place a bomb on enemies will start shooting at you from that ship. Use the wooden walkways to get on board the ships. Take out any enemies in your way, and plant the bomb.
- TIP: These walkways may look like a tangled mess, but if you just follow them around you'll eventually find a walkway onto the ships. Each ship usually has about two ways on. Plus the area is, technically, a big circle so it's impossible to actually get lost.
- There is one ship that you have to zip line over to. You'll see that there are no walkways leading to it, but enemies are shooting at you from it. There aretwo zip lines. One is high up on a walkway, and one is low on a walkway. The one that is high up is your way onto the ship. Zip across that, and take out enemies as you go. Plant the bomb, and then go to the second zip line to zip back across to safety.
- After the last ship blows you'll be treated to a cut scene.
- When the cut scene ends you'll be on another dock where you have to plant fourteen C4 charges. The spots are marked just like the last bombs.
- When the first enemies show up blast the glowing area above the storage container, and it will drop on them.
- Plant the bomb to your right.
- Blast the support of the structure next to you. Head up the structure, and plant the next bomb.
- Drop down to the next area. Run up the beam on the right to plant a bomb, and then plant the next one by the top of the stairs.
- After the first four, take out the enemies across the way. There is a walkway to the left that leads across to the other side, but you can't reach it. If you look up there is a grate with some barrels on it. Shoot the yellow wood under the grate, and the barrels will fall. This lowers the walkway to the other side. Follow the walkway to plant the next bomb.
- The next one goes on top of the shipping container on the left. In order to get up there you have to go up the stairs next to it, and dive over the railing to the top of it.
- Then get back onto the walkway, and go down the steps. There is a glowing spot on the metal by the bottom of the stairs. Shoot it to blow up a barrel, and lower the walkway to the next area.
- Now there is a giant metal piece with holes in it blocking your way. Shoot through the bottom hole to explode a barrel. This will drop the metal piece allowing you to cross. Follow the walkway to plant the next bomb.
- Below you there is a pile of metal sheets, and one of them has a glowing spot on it. Shoot this to blow up a barrel, and lower the walkway to the next area. Shoot the two enemies who appear as you move forward.
- Plant the next bomb at the bottom of the walkway.
- Run up the beam to the right, and plant the next bomb. This brings your total of planted bombs to nine.
- Follow the large broken support beams out across the water onto a ship.
- Follow along the ship killing enemies as you go, and you'll easily find the next two spots to plant bombs.
- Go up the stairs, and follow them over to the next ship.
- Follow the path set out for you by the shipping containers, and you'll find the next bomb site bringing your total to 12. Take out any enemies, and watch out for snipers.
- Go towards the next bomb placement. When you do the shipping container you walked under will fall.
- Plant the bomb, and then you'll be attack from across the way.
- Shoot at the enemies. When they're down look below them. Blast the glowing spots to cause an explosion, and a bridge will drop.
- Head straight across the bridge and down the stairs to plant the last bomb.
-
Chapter 3: The Mega Restaurant
- YouTube: Stranglehold - The Mega Restaurant PT. 1 (Time: 7:47) | All Parts
- You start out with two guitar cases, which are full of health and ammo. Place them around the restaurant in areas with cover.
- TIP: Turn around and place a guitar case by one of the large lion statues. Place the other one at the back of the room somewhere near the bottom of the stairs. This will give you one at each end of the room close to a set of stairs. You can get the I Don't Know How to Play Those achievement if you don't use the guitars, but there is no other source of health in this area.
- Once they've been placed you will unlock the Spin Attack. This attack will allow you to take out every enemy surrounding you by spinning and shooting. You can't move, but you also can't get hurt during this.
- TIP: The Spin Attack is a great thing to utilize if you're surrounded by a lot of enemies while you have the Tequila Bomb to do so. If it's only a few, don't waste the Tequila Bomb required for the move.
- Enemies will now appear throughout the restaurant. Dive around the room using Tequila Time to take them out while utilizing any environmental objects you can. This first wave will last until a cut scene starts.
- TIP: If you are in the center of the room you can utilize the Spin Attack very well, but enemies will surround you quickly. A good strategy is to get on the circular banister on the second floor. It circles the room, and you can just run along it until you see an enemy. You will then automatically go into Tequila Time so that you can take them out.
- The cut scene is short, and then you're met by another wave of goons. After some killing a cut scene shows some enemies in trench coats arriving.
- TIP: These enemies can be pretty tough, so try and take head shots. Use Precision Aim if possible.
- When the trench coat enemies are dead a checkpoint is rewarded. The relief is short lived, however, because more trench coat enemies show up, and two of them are wielding Rocket Launchers.
- TIP: Try to use any one of your Tequila Bomb attacks on these enemies. If you want to hang back use Precision Aim, but Barrage works really well.
- After they're dead you'll get another checkpoint.
- Go to the back of the room. Get on the elevator to queue up another cut scene.
- You'll now find yourself in a casino that is a bit larger than the last room, but the idea is essentially the same. Place your guitar cases, one at each end of the room.
- TIP: Placing one on the first floor by the elevator and one at the back of the room on the second floor usually works out pretty well.
- TIP: If you need them anytime during the shootout there are cranes behind each of the bars located at the back of the room.
- An onslaught of enemies greet you. Use the environment, Tequila Time, Tequila Bomb moves, and the guitar cases to take these enemies down.
- TIP: When they first charge in you can do a Barrage Attack or a Spin Attack. Just like the restaurant there is a beam that runs around the room on the second level, but this time it's a Dragon. If it worked for you before it can work again. There are also some cranes on the Dragon as well.
- After the first wave you'll get another cut scene, and then more of these enemies come at you. Keep doing what works for you, but be careful this second wave of foes is nasty.
- After you deal with them, another short cut scene plays. You'll see the elevator on the second floor open with a few enemies getting out. Take them out, and get on the elevator.
- As soon as the elevator doors open you'll get a checkpoint. Go down the hall, and enter the room on the left.
- Things in this room start with a standoff. This is as usual, but you're facing Submachine Guns now.
- When the standoff is over, you'll face another room where you'll be attacked from every angle by goons. The new twist to this room is that you have to protect the band playing in the center of the room. THIS IS HARD! Keep jumping around the room, and use Tequila Time to take out as many enemies as possible as quickly as possible. Try not to get the band in the crossfire.
- TIP: If you jump straight at an enemy or back away from them in a direction that isn't towards the band it can help. Try not to use an area near the band to run and gun because the enemies will shoot at you as well as the band. There are also health packs all around the room if you need them.
- When the first wave is down you'll get a second wave of enemies in red suits. These foes are, of course, tougher than the first wave, but keep diving around to take them down. This is amazingly chaotic, and hard on your health bar. Try to take head shots when possible, and don't shoot the band.
- Eventually, the elevator will open, and more enemies will come out. Kill these enemies, and you'll get a checkpoint.
- Get on the elevator to get to the next area.
-
BOSS: Lok
- YouTube: Stranglehold Boss: Lok (Time: 3:08)
- You'll get off the elevator in a cut scene, and when it ends you have to kill Lok.
- Use the pillars for cover, but be careful because Lok can blast away at them pretty quickly. They will eventually fall, and cause you damage. Try not to stay at any pillar for to long.
- Dive from pillar to pillar in Tequila Time, and shoot Lok as you go.
- If you hide behind the stairs you'll be protected because he can't shoot through the stairs.
- TIP: The best time to pop out is when he stops shooting and talks.
- When his health goes down a quarter of the way he'll start to come after you.
- Go up the stairs, and geab some health packs. Try to stay on the move, and keep shooting.
- TIP: Most of the time he won't follow you up stairs, but it does happen.
- If he shoots one of the areas of the upper level too much it will collapse and a hole will open up to below so watch out for those.
- When his health gets close to only a quarter left you'll get another cut scene.
- Now he's going to start throwing grenades at you so keep running and shooting.
- If you have the Tequila Bomb, use a Barrage Attack on him. This should help to defeat him, otherwise, it gets difficult. There should be cranes around the room to help you deal with him.
-
Chapter 4: Zakarov's Penthouse
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Zakarov's Penthouse PT.1 (Time: 3:58) | All Parts
- You start the level in a parking garage with enemies firing at you. Use the pillar on your right to take cover. Pop out and shoot the goons or do a Barrage Attack.
- After this first onslaught of enemies you'll get a short break until you head around the corner. A second wave will come at you, but they can be dealt with pretty easily.
- When everyone's dead go through the door on the right. A checkpoint registers as you enter the room with a large metal staircase.
- Here you'll encounter some enemies on the floor above you for each floor you ascend, but it isn't bad as each floor has something you can take cover behind. Just keep repeating this for the short three or so floors. Just below the last floor is a checkpoint. Kill the final guy, and go out the door he came through.
- You will now find yourself in a standoff. Kill them all quickly.
- After they're all dead, get to cover because some enemies will pop out.
- TIP: If you didn't blow up the fire extinguisher on the pillar closest to you don't use that for cover as someone else will shoot it and kill you.
- Use your Tequila Bomb attacks and cover to make it through this area. When you get to the end a cut scene will start.
- You are now in the penthouse. Some enemies will appear, and they turn on some red beams (or lasers). These red beams explode if you walk through them.
- Look above the first wave of enemies and shoot the glowing spot on the lights. This will cause them to fall and set off the explosive beams, which kills the enemies. If you need it there's a crane behind the large fountain.
- Continue on and keep using the environment to your advantage. Use the enviroment to destroy the red beams, and it also helps in taking out the enemies as well. Shooting down lights in order to clear the red beams from your path is the only way to make it through the first part of the this area. There are some points where there are glass walls in your way, but just shoot them out. If you're using the environment you can even knock down metal beams to run up and over the lasers.
- Keep making your way through these rooms until a cut scene occurs. When this happens a helicopter will show up and start blasting you. Red beams and a barricade of stacked objects block the exits so take cover. This may look scary, but if you just keep shooting the guy on the helicopter he dies relatively quickly.
- At this point the barricade is down. Go into the next room, and watch out for the helicopter. You need to keep moving because it isn't easy this time. Keep going back and forth from upstairs to downstairs. Keep moving and diving. You can use Precision Aim, but be careful as you have to anticipate for the helicopters movement. As soon as you kill the guy on the side of the helicopter it will leave.
- When this occurs go up the stairs, and a group of enemies will come out a door to kill you. Deal with these enemies, and go through the door.
- Another room full of enemies is your next obstacle. There are more exploding red beams, but these are a bit trickier. In the first area all you can really do is avoid them so don't go leaping into the room.
- After the first wave is down navigate the area, and go to the left. Take care of the guy on the path.
- Now there should be a few beams in the shape of a triangle blocking your path. Shoot the statues at the start of the walkway, and they will create a way across.
- In this area two enemies will get off the elevator across the way. Shoot them before you go across.
- You now have to get over to the elevator. In order to do so you have to swing on the chandelier. Get on the banister, and line up with the chandelier. Dive towards the chandelier and you'll grab it automatically. When it swings you over to the other side dive again to jump off, and land by the elevator.
- Get on the elevator, and you'll get a checkpoint.
-
BOSS: Vlad
- YouTube: Stranglehold Boss: Vlad (Time: 1:27)
- When you get off the elevator you're going to start getting shot by Vlad. Red beams will surround you at the same time.
- Run up the banister to get to the second floor. Take out all the goons and start shooting Vlad. You'll need to take cover, but don't dive around here as there are just too many red beams.
- Vlad will keep running away, and you'll have to chase him.
- Use banisters and the environment to get around the red beams. This can get difficult because of the beams.
- When there is a clear path to charge him use the Barrage Attack or Precision Aim.
- At one point there is a hall of beams that comes to a small point. Here you'll have to dive in order to slide under the beams. Be careful and time that just right or you won't make it.
- Take cover by the hallway with crisscrossed beams. Don't try and dive under these. Shoot the panels on the left. They will spin and blow the beams.
- Continue chasing Vlad once the enemies and beams are down. Clear out the next area full of enemies.
- You will reach a hallway where there are beams that come and go (flash). You have to time your walk through them.
- Shoot the window to your left. Walk to the next window without beams, and shoot through it. Then go through the next set of flashing beams.
- Kill the next few enemies, and follow the hallway.
- You'll actually hit a checkpoint so you won't have to go through all that again if you die.
- Go into the office on the left. You'll be in a standoff with Vlad's goons. They are easy enough, but then Vlad gets into a helicopter.
- Vlad starts using a rocket launcher. At this point there are no beams to worry about so you can dive and shoot all you want. Using Precision Aim to get a few head shots works really well. If you use Precision Aim it only takes a couple of shots to kill Vlad.

Chapter 5: Chicago History Museum
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Chicago History Museum PT. 1 (Time: 7:26)
- As soon as they start shooting in the cut scene the level starts. Get to the cover by the statue on your right, and start taking out enemies. As soon as they're down go into the next room. Take out the next round of enemies.
- TIP: It can be easy to start with a Spin Attack.
- Enemies will come at you from numerous directions, and they will eventually be shooting down from the upper level. Utilize your attacks and the layout of the room in order to survive. When you're ready go upstairs.
- Eventually a door will open on the second floor with two enemies carrying machine guns. Take them out, and you'll get a checkpoint. Go through the now open door.
- Follow the hallways, and kill anyone who gets in the way.
- When you hit the dinosaur room you'll get a checkpoint and a short cut scene.
- TIP: If you completely destroy one of the dinosaurs in the room you'll get the Paleontologist achievement.
- In the room you'll be attack by a large number of enemies from all directions.
- TIP: It's easy to stay outside the room and take out the first few enemies. Then go into the room, and start using Tequila Bomb attacks while utilizing the environment. You can run up the backs of the dinosaurs, and on top of each one is a crane.
- Eventually a door will open, and some enemies with machine guns come barreling out. Take care of them to get a checkpoint.
- TIP: There are grenades here. You can find them near the stairs at the entrance to the room. Pick them up, and save them for the boss battle later on in the level.
- Go through the open door, and follow the stairs until you enter a standoff. Take them down, and you'll get a checkpoint.
- Just after that you'll start to get blasted by gunfire from the roof. Use Precision Aim to take out these enemies.
- Enemies will now come at you from the ground level. Take them out, and go through the door they opened.
- Follow the hallways, and take out the enemies along the path. At the end of the hall you'll get a checkpoint.
- You will enter a room where enemies drop through the ceiling on ropes.
- TIP: You can stay outside the room and take most, if not all, of the first wave out before entering.
- Go in and utilize the room and your attacks to take these enemies down.
- TIP: Watch out for the enemies who will slide in and hang from the rope. Cranes are planted around the room if you need them.
- Make your way upstairs, and keep shooting anyone in your way. When you reach the end of the upper walkway enemies will come at your from the last door on your left. Kill them and you'll get a checkpoint.
- Go through the door, and follow the hallway. In the next room you enter kill all the enemies, and you'll get a checkpoint.
- Head up the stairs that had the last two enemies on them. Keep following the hallway, which leads to an Asian themed hall. Follow this and it will trigger a cut scene.
- After the cut scene, kill all the enemies that come at you.
-
BOSS: Damon
- YouTube: Stranglehold Boss: Damon (Time: 5:25)
- Damon is on a level above you. You are currently unable to reach him.
- Use Precision Aim and give him a few shots.
- While you're doing this more enemies will come at you on your level.
- Watch out for gunfire from Damon as it is very powerful and damaging.
- After the first wave of enemies is down a metal beam will fall from the ceiling. Run up the beam to get on the same level with Damon.
- There are some goons up here with him that need taken out.
- Don't get to close to Damon because his melee attacks are brutal.
- Use your Barrage Attack or keep a distance and use Precision Aim. Either way this is one of the easiest bosses as long as you keep moving.
- After the cut scene, chase Jerry through the hallway. You'll get a checkpoint.
- Enter a large room to find yourself in a standoff. It's the usual fare, which is followed up by a checkpoint.
- enemies will now come at you from all angles. Use your special moves, and take cover in order to take them out.
- Make your way to the open door on the opposite side of the room. Follow the hallway until you hit a checkpoint.
- Enter the large room. You'll get a short cut scene, which is followed by enemies throwing down smoke and shooting you. Hang back and start shooting.
- TIP: You won't be able to see through the smoke too well, but you can use the color indicator on your cross-hairs. Run it across the smoke, and shoot when it turns red.
- When the smoke begins to dissipate jump on in, and take the enemies out. When they're down a second wave will repeat the smoke bombs so repeat your actions.
- When you reach the end of the room go up the stairs on the right. Keep killing enemies, but be careful as they'll keep using smoke.
- Make your way to the end, and go through the door to get a checkpoint.
- Take out the enemies, and go down the stairs. Follow the concrete hallway, and kill the goons as you go.
- As soon as you get out of the concrete hall and back into the nice part of the museum you'll get another checkpoint.
- Go into the next room.
-
BOSS: Jerry
- Jerry is up above you. Use Precision Aim to give him a hit or stay in cover and pop out to give him a few. It only takes one Precision Aim shot to trigger a cut scene that leads to enemies coming towards you.
- Take them out, and then go through the door at the back of the room. Take out the enemies and go up the stairs.
- Here you'll encounter another large room where Jerry is the only person present.
- There are cranes all around the room. Pick them up, and keep using your Barrage Attack on him.
- If you still have grenades those are good too.
- Keep moving around the room, and use the health packs that are spread around.
- This isn't too bad if you keep moving, and using your Barrage Attack.
-
Chapter 6: Slums of Kowloon
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Slums of Kowloon PT. 1 (Time: 3:46) | All Parts
- Follow along the path in front of you until you find some stairs on your left. Go up the stairs and into the door.
- Go down the hallway, and a checkpoint coincides with some lightning. Follow the hallways, and where there's a guy who needs to be taken out.
- TIP: To the left of the first guy you deal with there should be some grenades. There should also be a door you can shoot out to get a crane.
- Follow the hallways until you enter a standoff. After these enemies are down you'll start taking fire from down below.
- Make your way to the other side of the area, and take out any enemies in your way. There is a clear cut path you have to follow. The path is laid out through beams that cross from side to side, and they go down a few levels.
- Follow these beams, and take out enemies as you make your way down.
- Once you reach the lower level and kill all the enemies you'll get a checkpoint.
- Go through the door at the back of the area. Follow this hallway, and deal with the few enemies that come at you. You'll eventually go up some stairs, and receive another checkpoint.
- Go down the shipping container, and take out the enemies here. Keep moving on through this area.
- TIP: The first few enemies have a glowing environment kill above their heads, which you can utilize. Keep an eye out for enemies shooting down at you from building windows, and you'll have to deal with snipers as well.
- Move down the path on the right after the area is clear. Here you'll deal with more of the same on the ground as well as enemies with rocket launchers above you. Dodge their attacks and use Precision Aim to take care of them.
- Eventually, a wall will blow out, and two enemies will come out shooting. Take care of them, and go through the open area to get a checkpoint.
- In the next hall things will shake and the floor will give out. It's okay to fall through the floor as the path leads to the same place. Just keep following the path until you get outside to a checkpoint and a cut scene.
- TIP: If you stay along the top path without falling through you'll get the Stay Dry achievement.
- Now that you're outside you'll encounter snipers and numerous ground goons that must be dealt with.
- Once you reach the back area you'll have two enemies on the second floor with rocket launchers shooting at you. Take them out, and then go into the building.
- Follow the stairs up until you get a cut scene that ends the level.
-
Chapter 7: Wong's Estate
- YouTube: Stranglehold - Wong's Estate PT. 1 (Time: 9:19) | All Parts
- As soon as the level starts take cover behind the rock. Take out the guy with the rocket launcher as well as his machine gun totting buddy.
- On your right there should be some more people shooting at you. Go towards the huts and keep shooting.
- Kill your way up the steps while keeping an eye out for enemies in and on top of huts. You'll encounter snipers as well so watch out for them. There are a lot of enemies to deal with before you get a checkpoint so take your time and take cover.
- TIP: There should be a health pack in every hut so try to shoot your way from health pack to health pack.
- It would be easier to hang back, but enemies will not stop coming at you. You have to get to the big red doors of the mansion for a checkpoint. Keep making your way closer and closer. Use cover and your special moves, but remember that the enemies only stop when you get to the door.
- TIP: Make note of the hut on the left before the mansion as it houses a Rocket Launcher. This will come in handy later.
-
BOSS: Broadsword Helicopter
- This can be really hard or really easy depending on how you go about it. The helicopter can mow you down pretty quickly so the key is to constantly move and avoid the attacks.
- Go back to the hut where the Rocket Launcher is and grab it. Use the two rockets it has on the helicopter, and then get back to cover.
- TIP: If at any point you have a Barrage Attack and the rocket launcher use them together as it will help immensely.
- Keep dodging its fire long enough and the rocket launcher will re-spawn in the hut. Pick it up in order to shoot the helicopter again.
- There are also a lot of grenades around. If you're good with them while dodging the helicopter attacks then go for it. Anything helps in taking down this thing.
- After the helicopter crashes there's a checkpoint.
- Go forward, up the stairs, and through the large doors into the mansion.
- This is a large hall where you are attacked by numerous goons. As soon as they pop out take cover and start shooting.
- Make your way up the stairs, and through the large doors where you'll get a cut scene.
- You are in the final standoff of the game. It's probably the longest one as well. Deal with everyone as normal and, hopefully, you'll make it through. The key to this one is that if you miss someone you'll get another shot at them, but they are closer to you. This makes it harder to dodge their shots so try and take them down when they are farther off.
- As soon as this ends the final boss battle begins.
-
BOSS: Wong & Dapang
- Deal with the enemies who attack you.
- Wong eventually comes out with a sniper rifle. Use Precision Aim, and he disappears after two shots.
- More enemies will attack so take them out the same as before, and then Wong will come back out. Give him two more Precision Aim shots and he's gone once again.
- More goons come at you so deal with them, and, after a while, Dapang gets in on the action.
- He is going to be coming at you with two shotguns at the same time that you're still being attacked by goons. The good news is that you just got a checkpoint.
- Stay away from Dapang, and keep shooting him from a distance while using your grenades. If you have a Barrage Attack then use that as it's the best way to deal with him. One good Barrage Attack can take Dapang down.
- Once Dapang is dead you'll have to deal with an onslaught of enemies while Wong tries to snipe you.
- Keep taking out enemies as they come at you, and use your Precision Aim to kill Wong. There are some cranes around to help you fill your Tequila Bomb, but you can do it by killing the goons as well. A few Precision Aim shots and Wong will die.
