• Plot

  IRS worker Harold Crick, played by Will Ferrell, leads a very methodical and lonely life. One morning he wakes up and as preparing for work, he hears a woman's voice narrating his every move. He tries to confide in co-workers, but they think he is nuts. He also attempts talking back to the voice, which proves unsuccessful. Harold becomes somewhat used to the voice and meets Ana Pascal, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, a bakery owner he is assigned to audit. Everything changes when he hears the woman's voice mention that his death is imminent. Harold is referred to a literary expert, played by Dustin Hoffman, in an attempt to find this writer and convince her to rewrite the story and spare his life.
