Stop-Loss is a 2008 drama film directed by Kimberly Peirce, which stars Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum, Abbie Cornish, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Timothy Olyphant.
The film is about a decorated war hero named Brandon King (played by Ryan Phillippe who returns home from his tour in Iraq, only to learn the Army has called him back to duty via a process called stop-loss. Stop-loss is a practice which allows the military to involuntarily retain soldiers who have already finished their original terms of service.
Stop-Loss is director Kimberly Peirce's first feature film since 1999's Boys Don't Cry, which won star Hilary Swank an Academy Award.
Stop-Loss was written by Kimberly Peirce and Mark Richard, produced by Pamela Abdy, Reid Carolin, Gregory Goodman, Kimberly Peirce, Mark Roybal, Scott Rudin and Alli Shearmur, and was distributed by Paramount Pictures.
