Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was a prominent Confederate general during the American Civil War. His nickname was coined during the First Battle of Bull Run, at which he was described as standing like a "stone wall."

Jackson's Death
Jackson was mistakenly shot by his own troops after returning from a battle after nightfall. His left arm had to be amputated, but he was not killed by the attack. However, around the same time Jackson contracted pneumonia and died just over a week later.
