Stonewall Jackson

Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was a prominent Confederate general during the American Civil War. His nickname was coined during the First Battle of Bull Run, at which he was described as standing like a "stone wall."

Timeline

  1. 1842: Attended military academy at West Point
  2. 1851: Became a professor at Virginia Military Institute
  3. 1861: Commands "Stonewall Brigade" for Confederacy; First Battle of Bull Run occurs in July
  4. 1862: Second Battle of Bull Run
  5. 1863: Battle of Chancellorsville

Jackson's Death

Jackson was mistakenly shot by his own troops after returning from a battle after nightfall. His left arm had to be amputated, but he was not killed by the attack. However, around the same time Jackson contracted pneumonia and died just over a week later.
