A recent study has led scientists and archaeologists to believe that Stonehenge may have been a burial place for Britain's first royal family.
A Single-Family Burial Ground
Radiocarbon dating of cremated bones, excavated from the site in early May 2008, revealed that burials began on the site as much as 500 years before the 5,000-year-old monument's construction.
Archaeologists reported that because of the small number of remains at the site and their arrangement, Stonehenge was likely the burial place for a single family.
It is the first significant evidence that a royal family may have ruled parts of England during this early period in its history.
