Stone Temple Pilots

  • The Stone Temple Pilots, also known as STP, is a popular alternative rock band. The group released five studio albums before breaking up in 2003. Scott Weiland made several solo albums and later joined the hard rock band Velvet Revolver.
  • Career

Formed in southern California under the original name Mighty Joe Young, the band changed their name due to a legal dispute and released their debut album Core for Atlantic Records. While the band was often criticized as being imitators of grunge rock heroes Pearl Jam, the album went on to achieve a good deal of success due to the hit singles "Plush" and "Vasoline." STP released four more albums before disbanding in 2003.
  • Comeback

In March 2008, Weiland announced he was leaving Velvet Revolver due to personal differences, and to focus on a tour with STP. After a five year hiatus, original members Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz embarked on a 65 city tour starting April 7th, 2008. The group also discussed plans to record an album of new material once the tour ends, possibly after Weiland finishes work on his second solo album, Happy in Galoshes.
