Steven Levitt is the co-author of best-selling book Freakonomics and the Alvin H. Baum Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. He is also the director of the school's Becker Center on Chicago Price Theory. In 2004, Levitt was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal, which recognizes the most influential economist under the age of 40.
About Freakonomics
Freakonomics is a compilation of essays which apply economic theory to social and historical issues not typically analyzed by economists. The book covers such topics as the legalization of abortion, crime levels and corruption in the sport of Sumo wrestling. The book has spawned a blog and bi-weekly column by the authors, both of which appear in The New York Times.
