Steven Curtis Chapman

  • Steven Curtis Chapman is a contemporary Christian musician, author and missionary. Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth Chapman, founded the ministry Shaohannah's Hope to financially assist couples in adoption.Official Site: Shaohannaha's Hope

    On April 23, 2009 Chapman won 2009 Dove Awards for Songwriter of the Year and Artist of the Year.

  • Career

    Chapman started his music career as a songwriter; in 1980 he wrote the song "Built to Last" which was recorded by The Imperials. The success of the song encouraged him to sign a songwriting deal with Sparrow Records, where he gained recognition and where many Christian artists recorded his songs.

    In 1987, Chapman released his first album, First Hand, which featured the song "Weak Days". The song climbed to number two on the Contemporary Christian Music Charts.

    Chapman has continued to be successful and tours all over the world.

  • Maria Chapman

    Maria Chapman was the youngest of the six Chapman children and one of three to have been adopted from China.

    Maria was struck and killed by a car driven by her teenage brother, Will Chapman, on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser and apparently didn't see Maria in the driveway.

    Maria was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where she later died.
