  • Steve Vai is a guitarist, composer, vocalist, and record producer. After attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, Vai landed a gig with Frank Zappa in 1979. Throughout the '80s, he played with a number of bands and artists including Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake. But it wasn't until 1990 that he broke out as a solo artist with his album Passion and Warfare, which was well received by critics and established Vai as one of the premier guitarists of his time.

Since then, Vai has kept himself busy recording his own music, touring (he has become a staple of Joe Satriani's G3 tours), composing music for films (including the soundtrack to 1994's PCU), and lending his guitar talents to numerous artists. He has also founded a record label (Favored Nations) and a charity that provides musical instruments and education to those who can't afford it (Make a Noise Foundation), and even took up the unusual hobby of beekeeping.
