Quote
"Although it's harder than it used to be to get noticed, startups can use blogging and other forms of technology to become part of the water cooler conversations that are relevant to their business. The key is not only to talk about your product/service but to connect to higher order themes that the community is talking about daily. Then you need to find a way to add value to that conversation in a meaningful way." Steve Rubel -

- "I've always been a net junkie and started reading blogs and RSS feeds around 2003...I was working at a small agency and saw an opportunity to get two of my clients blogging in early 2004. They had a lot of success with it. It helped them get more media coverage and from there I was hooked." (Steve Rubel)

Valleywag: Steve Rubel
Science proves it — no one trusts bloggers Steve Rubel, Edelman PR's Director of Insights, posts an insightful chart from an international survey (PDF) Edelman conducted. It shows that "opinion elites," defined as college-educated people in the top income quartile of their country who report a significant interest in and engagement with the media, business news, and policy affairs — that's you! — mostly trust people like themselves. Who's at the bottom of the trust-o-meter? Bloggers, who fell well behind company CEOs. Regular company employees are given much more credibility. This is why Google's PR people slap engineers' names on those blog posts the marcom specialists type up, and why Nick Denton announces changes at Gawker Media by letting me "leak" them. Trust me, I'm a blogger.
