Basketball Career
Nash was drafted by the Suns 15th overall in the 1996 NBA draft. Nash had little impact with the Suns and was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998. Nash had a breakout year during the 2000-01 season, and made his first All-Star team in 2001-02. He also helped lead the Mavericks to the 2003 Western Conference Finals, losing to the eventual NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs. After the 2003-04 season, Nash became a free agent and sought a long-term deal from the Mavericks. After the Phoenix Suns offered Nash a six-year, $63 million contract, Nash signed with the original team that drafted him. Nash became an integral part in rebuilding the Suns back into a championship contender, winning back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2007.
