    In October 2008, a hiker claimed to have found items supposedly belonging to Fossett near Mammoth Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.     When Steve Fossett disappeared in Utah, a massive search effort for the aviator began. Blackhawk helicopters were used, equipped with infrared technology, and 30 private planes were involved.
