Steve Ditko is an American comic book artist and writer.
Career
Steve Ditko's first professional work was for Harvey Comics in 1953. He worked on a number of Charleston and Prize Comics titles into the late 1950s before beginning work on different Atlas Comics (soon to be re-named Marvel) titles in 1956. Ditko's most enduring contribution to popular culture, Spider-Man (co-created with Stan Lee), debuted in the August, 1962 issue of Marvel Comics' Amazing Fantasy.
Ditko helped create a number of now-classic Marvel characters before leaving the company in 1966. He did freelance work at Charleston and DC Comics, also developing his own properties like Mr. A and Missing Man, until his retirement in 1998.
