British actor and comedian Steve Coogan began his career as a stand-up and impressionist, but quickly moved to television and film with the creation of his sportscaster turned talk show host turned radio personality character Alan Partridge. The character Alan Partridge was featured in three British television series including The Day Today, Knowing Me, Knowing You... with Alan Partridge and I'm Alan Partridge.
He hosts the Independent Spirit Awards in 2009.
Career
Coogan's film career has been, in part, tied to director and creative collaborator Michael Winterbottom, who featured Coogan in his films 24 Hour Party People and Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story. In 2008, Coogan will appear in two American films, Hamlet 2 and Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder.
Coogan's personal life has made him the subject of much tabloid fodder. He was accused by rocker Courtney Love of having had a hand in actor [Owen Wilson's suicide attempt by providing Wilson with drugs. Coogan responded via Access Hollywood saying that Love's accusations were, "completely and utterly false."
In March 2008, Coogan confirmed that he would be embarking on his first stand-up tour in ten years, and his production company Baby Cow continues to back such creative projects as the BBC series The Mighty Boosh and Where Are the Joneses, a wiki-based online sitcom.
