Early Life
Steve Chen was born and raised in Taiwan until the age of eight. He moved with his family to Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After graduation he worked for PayPal, where he met coworkers Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. The three broke off to form YouTube in 2005. In 2006, they sold YouTube to Google for $1.65 billion, and Chen is currently serving as its CTO. Chen's shares in Google were valued at $350 million in October, 2007.
