Inspirations
Meyer has drawn from classic literature as her inspiration for writing the Twilight series of books. She notes the following as direct inspirations: Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, and William Shakespeare.[1]Reportedly, the following titles are direct influences on the volumes of the Twilight series:
Twilight - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
New Moon - Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Eclipse - Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Breaking Dawn - The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare[2]
Lawsuit Against Meyer
Heidi Stanton filed suit against Meyer on April 14, 2009, for alleged plagiarism after claims that Meyer took her vampire stories from a short story Stanton had written while the two attended college together at Brigham Young University. Stanton states, "Quite frankly, I was shocked when I began watching the movie with my husband last week. I immediately told him that she got that idea from me! I wrote a fictional short story with the same ideas when we were in college together." It was originally reported that the production of the new film New Moon had been put on hold until the matter was resolved, however, media sources later reported that production was underway and the film will not be delayed.HollyScoop: Twilight Writer Sued for Plagiarism (April 20, 2009) Freep: 'Twilight' production halt is just a rumor (April 21, 2009)Meyer's MySpace Page
In early June 2009, Meyer announced that she has terminated her formerly popular MySpace account, once a popular venue for interacting with fans. Meyer is quoted as saying, "With MySpace no longer in existence, I can now clearly state that... there is no other outlet where I communicate with people online. "I don't do Twitter, so if you're communicating with someone online that you think is me, it's not."contactmusic.com: [1] April 9, 2009Stephen King
In a February 2009 interview with USA Weekend, fellow author Stephen King criticized Stephenie Meyer's writing. King told USA Weekend that while Meyer's storytelling was compelling she "can't write worth a darn."E Online: Stephen King vs... (February 4, 2009)Quotes

"I know the coolest thing I ever got. It must have been during the New Moon tour. I was in Phoenix and there was this little girl, who I still correspond with now and then because of this gift she brought me. She brought me a homemade CD of rare B-side Muse songs. I had never heard them before and oh my gosh, I wore that CD out. I loved it so much. I felt guilty though -- I had to order everything once I knew it existed because I’m not about pirating. (Laughs) But she gave me the gift of Muse songs I hadn’t heard and it doesn’t get better than that."—Stephenie MeyerLA Times: Stephenie Meyer Talks About the Film's Twist Ending (November 17, 2008)
