Stephen Strasburg is a pitcher who was recently drafted with the first pick of the 2009 MLB draft. He is said to be a once in a generation pitcher, with a fastball reaching 103 MPH.
Strasburg pitched for the San Diego State Aztecs and the United States Olympic Baseball team in 2008 Olympics. He was the first choice of the Washington Nationals franchise, who had the first draft pick.ESPN: Nats take RHP Strasburg at No. 1
Contract Negotiations
Strasburg is represented by agent Scott Boras who has let it be known publicly that he is interested in getting a $50 million contract for Strasburg. However, the current high water mark for a rookie contract coming out of the draft is prior pitching sensation Mark Prior who fizzled in the Major Leagues.Just before midnight of the signing deadline for the 2009 draft, Strasburg signed a contract for $15.1 million, with a $7.5 million signing bonus, paid out in three annual installments.http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/08/strasburg-contract-numbers.html
